~Flashback: Chicago 1920~

Alexia Branson took her time as she slunk toward the doors of the over populated club where music, laughter, and loud voices could be heard. Her hazel eyes lit up with recognition at the sight of a bronze headed young man stepping out of a horse drawn carriage. She was curious as she caught a glimpse of his young date still sitting inside the carriage slightly slumped against the seat.

Lexi watched the dashing gentlemen enter the club swiftly and dramatically where he disappeared. Puzzled, she continued her journey to the doors where she paused to give the doorman a smile as he opened the club's old fashioned door allowing her to pass through. The lively music met her ears along with the merry and humble voices of the obviously drunk men and few women.

Lexi blew a piece of hair out of her face as she strolled across the room to the bar where a very large man in a white button up shirt with a black vest was wiping down the counter top. The bartender looked up at the sound of Lexi's heels approaching the bar then lifted his eyebrow as he took in the blonde headed female in front of him. Lexi flashed him an alluring smile then sweetly said,"I will be having a Manhattan."

"Yes, M'lady," The bartender returned the smile before turning to prepare her drink while Lexi sat down upon the stool and looked about the filled nightclub. Her hazel eyes traveled to the small stage in the center of the club where a dark skinned young woman was attempting to sing over the loud conversing voices of the customers.

"I know this is not a lovely woman drinking alone that I see before me," A deep solemn voice said from behind her then sat down on the stool beside her just as the bar tender sat down her drink.

Lexi picked up her drink then turned to face the stranger with a teasing smile playing on her lips. "Your eyes do not deceive you, Mr...?"

"Mikaelson. Elijah Mikaelson," The guy wearing the dark black suit next to her said filling in the pause she had left. "And your name is?"

She took a long sip of her drink before answering the mysterious Elijah's question as he studied her with equally mysterious dark eyes that seemed to bore into her very soul. "Alexia Branson. I prefer to be called Lexi. The name Alexia just seems too disastrously formal for my preferences."

Elijah ordered a brandy which the bartender quickly served him then he proceeded to continue the conversation,"I'm sensing you detest formality, no?"

"You would be right, Mr. Mikaelson."

"Mr. Mikaelson is my father. Please, I insist. Call me Elijah," Elijah retorted then took a long sip of his brandy at the same time Lexi took a sip of her cocktail. Her dark lipstick left a smudge on the rim of her glass.

The song changed to a somewhat slow beat that Lexi seemed to absolutely love and she found herself itching to get out there and dance with someone. She sipped her drink again and felt Elijah's dark eyes on her as she did so. As if reading her mind, he offered her his hand then asked,"May I have this dance?"

A smile formed across her face as she accepted his hand and they abandoned their half empty drinks to go to the dance floor. Elijah's hand snaked around Lexi's waist and he took her other hand in his with a smile.

During the entire time they danced, their eyes never left one another as they twirled and spun around the room. He couldn't believe that the beautiful blonde before him was not spoken for and he smiled as his dark eyes took in her sparkling hazel ones.
