Elena's POV:

~About One Week Later~

"Elena, where do you think you're going?" I heard Stefan growl behind me and felt my plan to sneak out of the house shatter into millions of pieces around me. I had been so close, but Stefan and his exceptional (and annoying) hearing caught me red handed.

"Umm...to Bonnie's?" I said as I faced him, giving him a sheepish grin and I knew he didn't believe me in the slightest.

"Uh-huh," Stefan crossed his arms and gave me that look that said he wasn't amused and didn't believe me worth crap. I didn't blame him though. I had always been a pretty horrible liar. That was one thing that didn't change when I became a vampire. "And why don't I believe you?"

I felt the familiar rekindled flames of the ever present Gilbert temper build up underneath as I had a glaring match with the pain in the ass younger Salvatore. "I'm not a child, Stefan! Stop treating me as if I were one! Just because Damon's not here doesn't automatically make you the alpha male!"

Stefan's forest green eyes were consumed with anger as his eyebrows furrowed together in frustration at my stubbornness which came from my Petrova side. "I'll stop treating you like a child when you stop acting like one, Elena! Damon's gone and the sooner you accept that, the better!"

He didn't even blink when my hand came out of nowhere and slapped him across the face with enough force to send a human across the room. My brown eyes were ablaze and my mind was filled with disbelief at his words. "I'll never accept that! You'll never-"

I stopped mid-sentence when I felt the all too familiar searing pain in my lower abdomen and I instantly let out a hiss and bit my tongue. No, not yet! He couldn't come yet! I don't want him to come yet! Please, not until I have Damon back!

Stefan's POV:

"Elena?!" All the anger left my immortal face and was instantly replaced with extreme concern as she let out a whimper and clutched her large baby bump before looking up at me with eyes full of fear.

I caught her just before she doubled over and I felt her hands clinging to me as the small sobs escaped her throat. "I'm not ready for this, Stefan. I'm not ready. I want Damon." Her voice broke as she buried her face in my neck and let out another hiss.

"Come on," I said gently then carefully picked her up bridal style and I felt her arms tighten around my neck as I opened the front door. There, standing with her fist poised to knock, was none other than Bonnie and behind her stood a tall and very blonde Caroline.

"Stef-" Bonnie stopped when she saw Elena flinch in my arms and give a pitiful whimper that broke my heart. "Oh god! Is she in labor?! My car's closest! Come on!"

Bonnie took off with Caroline just a few paces ahead and I wasn't that far behind. She jumped behind the wheel and Caroline got shotgun so I got in the back and laid Elena across my lap. Bonnie pressed the gas pedal and took off down our drive before turning onto the semi empty road while I was doing my best to keep Elena calm and unafraid. She was gazing up at me with her big brown eyes as she wrapped her arms around my arm that was resting beside her head. I felt her fingers tightening around my wrist and I felt her barely shaking while I gently massaged her stomach to try to keep the pain she was probably feeling to a minimum.

Bonnie's hectic driving got us to the hospital in less than ten minutes and just in time too because I could tell Elena's contractions were hitting her hard and fast. Everyone jumped out and dashed through the hospital doors where we found Meredith conversing with another nurse.

As if on instinct, Meredith's head shot up and her gaze went to Elena who was in my arms shuddering and clutching my shirt. Her dark eyes met mine and the doctor in her took over causing her to lead us back into a delivery room where I laid Elena down onto the bed.
