I hesitated to open the car door when my mom pulled up to the curb outside Amber's front door.
"You alright?" Mom questioned. "You've been quiet the whole car ride."
"Yeah," I mumbled. "I'm fine. Just not really feeling wanted here."
"Well," she sighed. "You haven't been hanging out with them a lot recently. Maybe they just don't feel like they can rely on you as company - you never know, today may get it back on track."
She was right - I mean, hanging out with them would still keep me involved, but they just weren't as fun as my other friends. They never wanted to hang out with the rich kids at their free for all parties, never wanted to sneak around late at night with high adrenaline, never wanted to talk about who they would rather date. Things I had always learnt were exciting teen things.
"See you later, mom," I opened the door and swung my legs out. Mom gave me a small smile before pulling away, and I turned back to face the house. It was 4pm, Jessica had said to arrive at 3pm. Fashionably late, as Poppy always says.
I held my head up and walked up to the front door, giving it a small knock. I heard laughter from inside fade out, and footsteps approach the door. It swung open to reveal Cameron - he wore a backwards baseball cap, long sleeve white tee and black jeans. Looking kind of cute, may I add.
"Hey," he gave me a small smile. "Didn't think you were coming."
"Well, here I am," I shrugged. I stepped through the door and followed him into the living room.
"Hey, you're here!" Jennifer exclaimed, jumping up to hug me. She always was the nicest, I guess.
I gave Amber a small smile to be polite, when in reality there was no one I'd rather be away from right now. I sat myself down on the couch next to Cameron, crossing one leg over the other.
"We're just watching this decent film about zombie apocalypse takeover", Blake advised with a mouth full of gummy sweets. "And there's pizza on it's way."
Just like that, the doorbell goes and Amber gets up to open it. Seconds later she's walking back through the doorway, arms piled with four pizza boxes.
"Right, we've got a cheese, two pepperoni and a cheese with just olives for Blake and his weird cravings," she laughed and set the boxes down on the coffee table as everyone began diving in.
"Cait, you prefer plain, right?" Cameron handed me a plate with a slice before I could respond.
I didn't want to eat the pizza - Kimberly had introduced me to this new low calorie vegan-ish diet that her mom promotes. 5 days strictly vegan; one day with a single fish product and single low-fat dairy product; one day with egg included; and all days no more than 1,400 calories. She said it's allowing us to keep our protein high but avoiding lactose intolerance. Nonetheless, I took a few bites to be polite.
I swipe open my phone as the rest of them carrying on chatting and eating. I scroll down my Twitter feed and read a few articles about the latest clothing trend sweeping the world or the classics of how to spice up your school uniform. Quiet afternoon with not much to do, I tweeted with a yawn emoji. Blake grabbed the remote to change to the next film and I rolled my eyes at his choice of some superhero film.
So you're bored? Me too, my spa trip has been cancelled because someone injured a swimmer by fainting into the pool, how irresponsible! Party at Declan's tonight, don't worry, he'll have plenty of his year above friends there! Be at mine in an hour x
I grinned at the text from Poppy. Finally, something fun to do with my Saturday night. It was already 5pm so I knew I had to hurry myself away as soon as possible. No one was even paying attention to me here, so I doubt they would miss me. Cameron kept looking at me from the side but he wasn't making any effort to engage, so neither was I.
-----
"Put this one on your Snapchat!" Poppy exclaimed whilst posing with a pout. I turned to strike another pose as the camera continue to flash. "And we defo need one for Insta!" We changed a few poses here and there, and I made sure to accentuate my hips in the deep red body con dress I chose to wear tonight.
I took back my phone from Layla and leaned in with Poppy to assess which was the most worthy. A photo of Poppy pouting and looking upward with me winking with my tongue out - definitely social media worthy. Adding a few filters and the caption, "Saturday nights with my favorite girl" I clicked post and went back to dancing.
Leaving mine because your brother needed help at home yet your feed is filled with you amazing best friends? Nice try, you've only made yourself look stupid. Just don't bother coming near us again, ok? We've been getting pretty tired of you anyway. I rolled my eyes at the text from Amber - her jealousy was seriously so embarrassing, yet she never let it go. I was having too much of a good time at a popular party to respond to her desperate attempts for attention, so blocked her number and threw back another shot.
I waded my way through the crowd and spotted Aiden leaning up against the wall. I held a small smirk before seeing a girl from Biology leaning onto him arm for support. I rolled my eyes and threw my shoulders back as I walked over.
"Oops," I giggled, pushing her to the side with my hip. She looked at me with judgement but walked off as a continued to hold my gaze. The way these girls will embarrass themselves trying to sidle up alongside a guys they have no chance with was always entertaining, but not when it was mine.
"You want me all to yourself now, huh?" Aiden smirked looking down at me.
"Well, it seems like last time we didn't get to finish what you started on the bench outside," I said, confidence coursing through me as I attempted to entice him by running my hands up to his collar.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me out the room, leading me up the stairs and into the spare room as I couldn't hold back my giggles.

(banter is i remember people trying that "vegan non vegan" diet years back n i thought it sounded ridiculous so ofc Cait's dumbass friends would be doing it - however make sure u eat 2000+ calories a day lads)
