Chapter 38 - Persimmons
Days transpired into weeks and those weeks were always filled with endless amounts of pleasure as well as joy, currently she was sitting in Blossom Cakes San with Ketsumo sitting behind her, watching the front. Mayu was sipping peach tea while her body guard sipped his coffee, eventually the familiar brown hair of the woman she was waiting for appeared. Mayu stood up, waved, and the woman came right over; her scarf was wrapped around her neck, and her coat buttoned up as the winter settled in. "Good afternoon Kanako!" Mayu hugged the woman, she returned it, once seated Mayu handed a menu over, "Get something. My treat!"
"Sure! Thank you for inviting me."
"Nonsense! You're my friend, we should hang out more often but we're both so busy." She nodded, Kanako ordered the rosehip tea, Mayu smiled, "That's my favorite."
"It's mine too. I fell in love with it the moment I tried it from your sample box. How long ago was that?"
"Too long." They chuckled together, "I figured we could have lunch together and talk about the tea pots and cups. Two for one!"
"I had a hunch that's what you were thinking so I made sure to bring the book with me!"
"You're so intelligent Kanako!" She smiled, the book was removed from her bag, Mayu motioned for the other woman to sit next to her, she did so, and they flipped through the book together; one page at a time so that Mayu could learn about the history of each one. The waiter came, placed down Kanako's tea, and asked what they'd like to order, "I'd like the dragon fruit bun please." Kanako asked for the peach one, he inclined his head to them while disappearing. "So this one has a rich history since the feudal era, I like that. The design is very simple and elegant."
"Yes, it's one of my personal favorites but it's already in a lot of shops. I'm sure you want something more unique?"
"Yes."
"I think I have something." Mayu looked as Kanako removed a smaller book, "These are the ones that others have asked us to import but never finished the deal, we have so many, and I'm sure you can find something here." Mayu nodded, the book was placed on top of the other one, and she opened it; immediately she noticed how beautiful everything was. "I know, how could anyone not want to put this in their home, office, or restaurant?"
"You're right. Why would they back out, that's absurd." Kanako nodded as she paged through each one, suddenly she stopped on one. The cup was decorated with a single red entrance to a shrine, on the inside there was a symbol for a Shinto Temple, and the teapot was decorated with Cherry Blossom petals. The handled on the tea pot was carved to look like a tree branch that extended and melted into the pot itself where the petals seemed to fall from it, blossoms were also painted on it as well. "This is gorgeous."
"Yes, it's one of my favorites but there's just one set. Four cups and the pot."
"I'd like it for my home."
"Alright!" Kanako brought the papers, she jotted down the number, and the price while Mayu continued to page through the book. The very last page is where she stopped, her eyes widened as she stared at the pastel pot and cups, they were earthen, she could tell. "Hm? What did you find?" Kanako looked, "Ah, those didn't have a name on them, but someone ordered a lot of them. Probably enough for your first tea house and extra." Her fingertips touched the page lightly, "What is it Mayu?"
