chapter xix | a drop in the ocean

ELIZABETH'S POV

"Are you sure this is blue enough? We should add more food coloring." Alex said as he mixed the icing in the bowl.

"You can if you wan't. I just don't want it too taste bad if there's too much coloring in it." I placed the now filled cake pan in the oven and turned back around.

Let me give you a little explanation. After Alex kissed me yesterday, we kissed a few more times and then ended up curling up on the couch watching movies before we went to bed. There was nothing different except we kissed. I didn't even know what we were. If he wanted to be anything or not. It was confusing but I didn't have time to worry about it since we had to get everything ready for Jack's surprise.

"Wait, food coloring has a taste?" he stopped and looked at me.

"If you put a lot in, it has a little bit. It's nothing big or anything. I just want this to be perfect." I smiled as I stuck my finger in the icing and tasted it.

It was currently a really light blue, and I wanted it to be a little more vibrant. I put a few more drops of food coloring in it. "I can mix it?" 

"No, I'll help." Alex smiled at me before continuing too mix the stuff up. I glanced at the clock and saw it was 5pm.

"It wouldn't be that late if you would have got out of bed." Alex snickered. 

"Shut up. I was tired. Someone kept me up watching Harry Potter all night." I nudged him slightly.

"Like you minded. You were so into that movie." 

"Who isn't into that movie?" I chuckled as I walked to the table where the bottom half for the two layer cake sat.

"The icing's done." he walked over and sat the bowl on the table.

"Okay, I'm gonna put icing on this half. That half should be done soon." I said biting my lip as I sat down on the chair and started putting icing on it.

He nodded his head and sat down across from me. "So what time should I have Jack over here?" 

"Around 5? That way we have plenty of time to drink." 

Speaking of drinking, I hadn't drank anything in a while. I was starting to miss the burn of alcohol.

"Alright. Zack and Rian are bringing their girlfriends. I'll have Matt and the guys come too." he suggested.

"Then you should probably call them and tell them." I giggled.

He laughed, "I guess I should." he grabbed his phone and hurried off upstairs to his room.

ALEX'S POV

I walked upstairs and dialed the guys telling them to come around 5 and bring whoever they wanted. I was planning on just having a normal day out with Jack and then stop by my house casually and surprise him.

It was so weird planning a surprise party for a 26 year old but I knew he'd love it.

After getting off the phone I layed back on the bed. I was tired. Baking wasn't my thing. I opened up twitter and went through my feed. A few things popped out.

@JackAllTimeLow: I just hope tomorrow goes by fast because I wanna get down to Vegas and see my home girl! @elizabethxo_

Liz had replied: @elizabethxo_: @JackAllTimeLow i know! i'm so excited! miss you jacky ;*

I continued going through until I found a few more.

@joshmeatsix: get to see the lovely @elizabethxo_ in vegas this weekend. super excited. see you soon love x

I looked at what she had replied and bit my lip: @elizabethxo_: @joshmeatsix it's been forever! super excited to see you :) 

I logged off twitter and started to think. What were Liz and I? I had kissed her, and she obviously didn't mind it. Did I want too date her? Of course I did! But I didn't want to cause problems with Jack before his birthday so I hadn't asked her about anything.

I was also worried that something would happen between her and Josh this weekend. They had hooked up before and who's to say they wouldn't again?  

ELIZABETH'S POV

Alex hadn't came back downstairs so I assumed he probably fell asleep or something. I finished up icing the second cake and went upstairs to shower.

I used the bathroom that wasn't connected to Alex's room because I didn't want to wake him up. The water was nice and hot and I definitely needed that shower.

I got out and pulled on the Raven's jersey, yet again. I towel dried my hair and walked back into Alex's room. 

He was sound asleep and I felt a smile break on my face. He looked so cute. I crawled into bed beside him and fell fast asleep.

A/N: I have homework since school started and I hate it.
