Chapter 37

We pulled apart. My head was spinning. Did I just kiss the man who my heart has been quenching for? I looked at him. His eyes were full of amazement, and he still hand his hands on my waist.

"Well. I proved it to you. Didn't I?" I smirked and backed away. I pulled the jacket closer to me as the wind nipped at my arms.

"You sure did. You swept me off my feet too." His accent was thick

"It was a pleasure. But I suggest we head home. If we stay out too late Darry will kick our heads in. Besides, I have to start dinner." I turned but Pony grabbed my hand

"That didn't mean anything to you?" He had a sad tone

"Listen Ponyboy." I turned to face him. "You're a sweet guy, really. But you just broke up with Aciden.. Its too early. Yeah, I've been aching for you. But that don't mean nothin'. You've hurt me so many times that I can't count. I've fought myself to not go up and just kiss you right on the spot. Its tough. But I'm a greaser. Greasers ain't suppose to feel anythin'. I've got to be tough. Besides, one kiss doesn't make the wound better." And with that, I walked away.

I opened the creeky door to see Darry and Soda on the couch with the radio blaring.

"Ay where's my lil' brother?" Darry sat up and I shook a little

"He's comin'. Cool it. Imma make dinner. I'm too tired to make anything big. So Mac and cheese will have to do." I shrugged and got out 3 boxes of Mac and cheese and a pot. I filled It with water and set it on the stove.

"Hey y/n.. Can I speak to you?" Soda peered up behind me.

"Sure." I dumped the mac into the pot

"You alright? You're not your bubbly self tonight." Soda questioned

"Actually.. I'm not." I stopped stirring

"What's wrong..?"

"Its Pony... He acts like he can just win me over with a simple kiss and a 'I love you'. I feel like he uses me! He jumps from girl to girl and breaks their little heart every time! Only a few weeks till were out of highschool and Pony better step up his game." I emptied the cheese packets into the pot and stirred furiously.

"Step up his game?" Soda cocked an eyebrow and smirked

"Not like that, you dingbat. I meant like his life. He needs to get a job and find a wife. Go to college. Stuff like that." I glared at him and he giggled.

"I agree. He can't keep living with Darry and I. Darry got to get a wife too."

"Darry and you? You're like 20. Get your life together! You're still livin with him."

"I know I know. I'm just playing. I'll get a girl. I know I will. Someone beautiful, someone loyal, someone understanding."

"Well. In this side of the neighborhood, its gonna be difficult to have your expectations reached."

"Not if I meet a girl like you. You're all of those traits, even more."

"Because I'm different. I have respect." I served the plates of Mac and cheese. The boys gathered around the table and I trudged to my room. I got changed into some pajama bottoms and a loose shirt. I walked into the bathroom and took off my makeup. Bye bye eyebrows..for now. I brushed my teeth and hair. I then sat on the couch in the living room. I turned off the obnoxious radio and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels. My eyes drooped and I was soon engulfed in a deep slumber.

I woke up to someone flicking me in the nose. I opened my eyes to see Two-Bit hovering over me. In one quick move, I pushed him off the bed and onto the floor

"Two-Butt! You dick!" I rubbed my eyes. I was already grumpy.

"Its like 11 A.M. on a Saturday. You slept in too late. We already ate all the cake , angry midget." He got up and dusted himself off

"Ugh. Why did I sleep in? I went to bed at like 10 P.M...." I slowly got out of bed.

"Yeah but you probably have been holding back all the stress. Have you been sleeping lately.?"

"Come to think about it.. Not really. School and other things have been stressing me out."

"What other things?"

"Nothing. You wouldn't want to know"

"Oh but I would."

"Fine. Ponyboy has been stressing me out."

"How?"

"For fucks sake. This isn't 20 questions."

"Geez. Calm your self you angry hobbit"

"Sorry. I'm just.. I don't even know" I trudged out of the bedroom and saw the entire gang was here. INCLUDING Yohnnie and Kaylen. Just what I needed. I sighed and clenched my teeth. Why can't I just get some peace and quiet?!
