Chapter 34: I've Always Known

Faith's pov.

" Fine you're the guy who is closed up but the people you let into your life you love and protect with all you've got, when you're upset you hate to show it because you think it will make you look weak, you don't cry in front of anyone and if you do something terrible happened, you think that you're a terrible person but you don't see all the great things about you, and you think that being a vampire defines who you are when it doesn't. You're so much more then you think. "

" After everything you know about me and have seen me done how can you still look at me like you do? "

Flashback ( Chris's pov. )-----------------

I watch Faith's pigtails fly behind her as the ride speeds up and her smile grows wider. She begged her parents to take her to the fair but they had to work so I offered.

After all how can anyone say no to her expert puppy dog eyes?

I'm still watching her when my vampire hearing picks up on something.

" No please don't. "

I hear the kid cry. I quickly follow the voice to a ally and there I see a man pinning a little girl to the wall about to take a bite into her neck. I run over at vampire speed pushing the guy against the building and the little girl runs away.

" You think you can just drink from the innocent like that? "

I spat at him and don't wait for his response instead I sink my fangs into his neck and drink his blood.

Vampires can drink from other vampires it's just not as good as human blood but it does have the same effect as human blood.

When I'm done drinking every drop of his blood I throw his lifeless body onto the ground and it turns to ashes. This happens any time a vampire dies, they either get all of their blood drained or they burn to death.

" Chris? "

I turn to see Faith starring at me and my heart drops. Did she see what happened?

She walks over to me and tugs on my shirt gesturing for me to kneel down to her level. I do as she wants and she looks at me tilting her head. She puts her tiny hand on my mouth and wipes something off with her thumb.

When she's done she smiles proudly that's when I notice she had wiped blood from my mouth.

" There now your face is clean. "

She says smiling as I stare at this little girl confused. How is she not afraid of me?

Chris's pov.

" How were you not afraid? Not then and not now, I just don't understand. "

I admit confused.

" It's because I've always known you would never hurt me. Even as a kid I knew that. You only drink blood from those who try to hurt others and you've never hurt anyone without a good reason. "

" Reason or not I'm still a killer. "

She chuckles.

" It's like you're trying to make me afraid of you? "

" If you were afraid of me you would be safer. "

" I doubt that, after all you are the one who protects me. "

I don't want her to fear me but it's safer if she does. If she's afraid of me then she won't kiss me and if she won't kiss me I won't lose control.

" So you're not afraid of me? "

I ask again.

" Nope. "

I take a deep breath then at vampire speed I gently pin her wrist against the wall and lower my lips to her neck.

" Are you still not afraid? Even with my fangs a mere inch away from your neck? "

I challenge and her breathing picks up but I don't think it's fear, probably just from how close we are.

" You would never hurt me. "

She tells me not hesitating.
