Chapter 38: 8 years later...

*Hayes's POV*

"EXCUSE ME YOUNG MAN! DONT YOU EVER TALK TO YOUR MOTHER LIKE THAT!" I yelled at our 8 year old. "I'm sorry dad." Derek said running to his room. "Hayes calm down it's fine." Kayla said. "Taylor just had to cuss around him." I groaned and she came up to me. "Calm down." She said hugging me. "Go talk to him." She smiled and I kissed her. "Okay." I walked upstairs and went into his room. I saw him doing math homework and smiled.

"Hey buddy!" I said and he didn't look at me. I heard Kayla walk up and stop at the door. "Derek talk to dad." She said and he turned around. "Okay mom!" He said and I smiled at her. "Hey I'm sorry for yelling at you. I was just shocked." I said and he hugged me. "I'm sorry for saying a bad word to mom." He smiled and I forgave him. "Okay how would you like Taylor to babysit you tonight?" I asked. "Yes!" He smiled. "Alright go back to your school work." I said and shut his door.

I ran up to Kayla and kissed her. "Dress nice tonight." I smirked kissing her neck. "Okay." She smiled. I let go and sat on the couch. "What are you doing?" She asked. "Sitting on the couch." I said. "Uh no you offered last night to wash the dishes." She smirked. "Fine." I groaned. "Andddddd you have to walk Lightning with Derek." "Your lucky I love you." I said smacking her butt. "HEY!" She yelled. I laughed and did the dishes. "I'll walk him we are going to be late." She said. They left and I ran upstairs and grabbed the ring. I called taylor:

Taylor😎: Yo man what's up?
Me: can you watch Derek tonight?
T: Yea sure why?
Me: I'm going to propose to Kayla tonight.
T: Oh sh!t
Me: yea come in ten minutes thanks gotta go

I hung up and picked out her outfit and picked out mine. I ran back downstairs and finished doing the dishes. "Babe get dressed Taylor is coming in ten." I said grabbing her waist. "Okay." She smiled. She went upstairs and Derek went to his room. I went up and into our room and saw her putting on makeup. "God." I said and she laughed. I got changed into a collared shirt and jeans. "I know your staring babe." I said looking at her. "So what if I was." She smirked. "Then I should watch you." "I'm already dressed." She smiled and I wrapped my arms around her waist.

"I love you." I said into her neck. "I love you more." She put on her last bit of make up then turned around. I crashed my lips to hers and she wrapped her arms around my neck. The doorbell rang and I pulled away. "Let's go." I grabbed her hand and we walked down stairs. "Derek Taylor's here." She said opening his door. "YAY!" He smiled running out and opening the front door. "Aye what's up little man." Taylor said. "Alright thanks taylor." We said and left. "Good luck man!" He said and patted my shoulder.

I opened the door for her and then got in my side. "Where are we going?" She asked. "We are going to eat food." I said and she laughed. "I missed this." I sighed grabbing her hand. "Missed what?" She asked. "Just us being alone." I said pulling into a parking spot. She opened her door and I just stared at her. "That was my job." I said and she laughed. "Oops!" She smiled and I grabbed her hand.

We walked inside and waited for a table. "Hey babe?" I asked. "Yea." She said. "If we get married, promise me that we will act like we aren't married." I said and she nodded. "I promise." She smiled and we walked to the table. We sat down and I smiled. "After this we are just walking around." I said shaking. "Hey calm down." She laughed. "I'm calm." I said reading the menu.

The waiter came and we ordered salads with waters. I saw her checking her phone and I took it. "Stop worrying over him." I said and she smiled. "He scared the living crap out of me this morning when he cussed." She said. "I know that's why I yelled. I'm a bad father!" I looked down. "You are not a bad father. That was the right thing to do." She assured me.

"My dad thinks I'm not a good father." I sad eating my food. "Stop with him Hayes. Derek is our kid not his. He's been saying this for eight years let it go." She said holding my hand. "I know he's just always there saying something bad. Like can't he be a proud father and grandfather to our kid. That's all I want from hi-" I stopped once I saw him walk into the restaurant. "Alright we're done." She said getting the check. I paid and we left.

I drove to the park where we just walked around and I stopped. She looked at me confused. "Kayla Claire Dallas! I have known you since forever! We have so many good moments together and we have a boy that we made, together. We have been through a lot and we have had our ups and downs but you are always the one smiling. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I have been talking about marriage a lot and now I'm ready." I got down on one knee and pulled out the ring. "Will you marry me?" I asked and she was crying. "Y-yes!" She said and I hugged her. I put the ring on her and kissed her.

"I love you." I said still hugging her. "I know." She laughed. "Let's go home. I don't trust Taylor with Derek." She said walking to the car. I took a picture of her walking in front of me holding my hand but the hand was the one with the ring.

Once we got home I was attacked with an eight year old hug. "Hey buddy." I said high fiving him. "Thanks Tay." She said hugging him. "Anytime." He smiled and left. "Mom?" Derek asked. "Yea." She said taking off her shoes. "Are you and dad getting married?" "Yes and your going to be in it." She smiled hugging me. "Alright get your pajamas on and head to bed." She said and he went up. "Does this mean we can...?" I asked. "Yea." She smirked walking up. I turned all the lights off and locked the doors and went up.

"Goodnight and don't forget football practice after school." She said and I walked in. "Goodnight bud." We did our handshake and then we walked out and shut the door. "Your lucky he's a heavy sleeper like you." She said and walked up. I shut the door and...
