Kid's POV

"Kid!" Liz yelled, "Get up we have to leave for school in ten minutes."

I groggily opened my eyes and looked up at her. Being shaken awake is not fun. Maybe I could just skip today, not like it would matter, I've already missed most of the week. No, I want to see if Kayla shows up. Maybe it wasn't even her last night- or she went mad or something. I groaned, sat up, and nodded towards Liz. "Don't wait up for me though ok? I'd hate to make you late," I said to her before she closed the door to my room.

I threw the blanket off of me and fell onto the ground off of my bed. Two hours of sleep is not enough. There's no way I'd be able to shower before leaving. I looked at myself on the mirror and winced-I really needed a shower. I hate being late, though- I'd rather just not show up than be even five minutes late. I brushed my hair and put on a t-shirt and jeans (my only other perfectly symmetrical outfit besides my suits). I hadn't thought I would be going to school today so all my dress shirts are dirty.

I slipped out of my room and grabbed a granola bar as Liz and Patti were leaving. I stayed back a few minutes to finish my breakfast and brush my teeth. Anyways, I'm faster than they are because of my Beelzebub. I felt instantly better when I looked down and saw the pink nail polish on the front- it reminded of Cora.

I arrived at the academy just as the late bell rang- which means I was about a minute late to Stein's class. He wasn't mad because I really don't think he expected me to show up today either.

I walked up to my normal seat next to Liz and Patti. I noticed Kayla wasn't in her normal spot, but a row ahead. My heart practically skipped a beat when she looked back at me with the happiest look in her eyes.

Maybe it wasn't Kayla last night.

Kayla's POV

I looked at the glowing numbers on the digital alarm clock. It was the only thing in the whole room- not to mention the only think giving off any kind of light. The numbers flashed to 6:00 am and immediately Ma'am Layla walked in with Lady Medusa in tow.

I hadn't been able to sleep all night, so I had spent the night coming up with how Layla and Medusa would punish me. I mean, I imagine they'll kill me. What other use do I have? I've failed them. I'm just a worthless failure to them now. They'll just dispose of me.

"We're giving you a second chance," Layla told me with a straight face.

"Wait, what?" I asked out of confusion.

"Either you thank us, little girl, or we don't give you another chance and we punish you," Medusa said angrily.

"Oh, right. I-I'm sorry and thankful. Thank you. For the second chance that is." I stuttered out still sortof in shock.

"You have classes, today," Layla said pushing me over.

"Yes, miss." I said, struggling to get up.

"Here," Medusa threw a piece of bread at my face.

"Thank you, Lady," I said.

I followed them out of the darkened room and down the hallway and out the front door. I ran back to Soul and Maka's. I reached into my pocket once I got there and put it into the keyhole to turn it. Before opening the door, I stuffed Maka's cloak I 'borrowed' into the mailbox. The door squeaked open to reveal Maka making breakfast.

"Oh, hello!" I said cheerily.

"Where have you been?" Maka asked.

"I just went for a jog that's all," I went up to my duffle bag to find something to wear.

"Hey where were you?" Soul asked still half asleep.

"I went for a jog," I smiled. "I'm going to hop into the shower," I said.

I walked into the bathroom and turned on the hot water.

Why am staying here? I mean I'm obviously a worthless liability. Why didn't Layla kill me? She should have. That's what I would've done. Oh and Medusa looked to have come back to life, somehow. Maybe she talked mother into not killing me. Stupid witch. I hate her. They made the wrong choice.
