Chapter 29-Forever and Always

Cora's POV

"No!" Kid yelled after me.

I hated leaving him. God I missed him so much. I stopped in my tracks for a second, considering. No, I couldn't. "I'm so sorry!" I yelled back, hopefully making up for me running away. I dashed up an alleyway and grabbed a fire escape ladder, barely being able to pull myself up onto it. I was so out of breath I had to rest, but I knew Kid was almost definitely following me. I jumped into the still broken window that I had confronted Clyde in. I was grateful no one had fixed it. It looked to have been cleaned, though. There wasn't nearly as much dust as I remember.

I sat down in the corner of the dark room. I sighed in relief. As long as Kid was aware that this girl, Kayla, was after him, he wouldn't let his guard down. I did what I came to do. I smiled, happy for Kid's safety. It was sort of a bitter-sweet situation, to tell the truth.

"Thank god,"

I looked up to see who had said that. "Kid!" I whispered, wide eyed. I shot up and tried to run past him after a moments hesitation.

"Stop running, please," he said, taking me by the upper arm. He turned me around to face him.

I sighed at the inevitable. I was screwed.

He yanked my hood down, and by the look plastered on his face, he was speechless. "Cora," he stuttered out after a few silent minutes.

"Hey," I smiled sort of looking down.

He hugged me and I put my head in the crook of his neck. "My dad's an ass," he laughed.

"Yeah," I agreed. We pulled away from the hug and continued in an intense stating contest. "You got taller," I said, looking up into his golden eyes.

"Or you shrunk," he smiled. He kissed me. Soft and short like he was going to break me like I was a porcelain doll or something. We intertwined our fingers and I laid my head on his chest. "I won't say anything," he whispered.

"Thanks," I was finally happy. Maybe this could be a permanent thing. Just me and Kid, Forever And Always.
