"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"A pilot! You?"
"A barbie doll!"
"You're prettier than a barbie doll"
"I wouldn't know since all my dolls' heads are missing."
"You buried my action figures""
"It was a funeral!"

The entire day Olivia had trouble paying attention to anything. All she was thinking was whether what Jake said was true or just a silly rumor. She realized that Alice hadn't come over the other night, nor had she seen her since she returned.
It was at home time she realized she didn't have a ride home. A part of her wished to go with Jared but she didn't really expect him to wait for her, that's when someone said, "Need a ride home?"
She turned around to find Jake, she smiled and said, "I do actually, you mind?"
Jake shrugged and said, "course not, I'm taking Ash and Drew home anyway, come on"
She walked towards Jake's car and got in.
The entire ride to Ashleigh's house and then hers, she was silent. The boys noticed it, and were gonna ask her about it but decided against it.
When Jake stopped in front of her driveway, she got out and thanked him. He smiled and Drew said, "Call us if you need anything, okay? Dont worry too much," and with that, they drove off.
She was searching for her keys in her bag. She couldn't seem to find it. After searching for ten minutes she finally came to the conclusion that she had misplaced or lost it. Giving up with a sigh, she sat down on the porch steps, waiting for her parents to come home.
About fifteen minutes later, a car drove up the driveway, but it wasn't her parents' cars.
'Jared'
He got out of the car, and walked towards her. She gave him a questioning look and he said," You know, you always did this, I wonder if you had a delivery boy in Britain too."
"What?" She asked and he said, "You dropped your keys, Chap-stick and what seems to be an old napkin in the auditorium. I was pretty sure it's yours and was pretty surprised seeing it in Max Kregg's Possession." He said.
"But I didn't even, oh wait I did. Sorry." She said sheepishly and grabbed the keys, opening the door, seeming completely flustered. She turned around and said, "You coming or what?"
She noticed how he almost said yes, then said "Uh no thanks, got stuff to do."
"Jared, come on please?" She said. He sighed and said "fine" and walked in
He sat down on the sofa, about to turn the TV on when she said,"We need to talk."
He stiffened.
She noticed.
"About what" he asked.
"About your mom." She said, getting to the point as she always did.
Jared had always admired her straightforwardness. She remembered him telling her that in a world as double faced as the earth, he was glad to have someone like her as a companion.
"What about her?" he asked, trying to be as casual about it as possible.
He failed.
"Jared, is it true that Alicia ran away?" Olivia asked.
Jared stiffened even more, to the point where if he stiffened any more his veins would pop.
"Who said this to you?" He asked.
"Oh God it is true, isn't it? I'm so sorry" she said, and tried to reach for his hand to comfort him when he got up and shouted,
"Don't even dare. This is none of your business. My family matters are private Olivia, you've been gone for four years and you think you can waltz in now and try to fix everything? Do you not have anything better to do? She ran away with your best friend Drew's dad. Drew didn't tell you did he, huh? This happened almost a year back Olivia stop bringing the past up!"
Saying this, he stood there, glaring at her. She said, " I didn't... I didn't know. I'm sorry. Do you need water?"
"No" he said, Breathing heavily.
Olivia said, "And what about Kate becoming your new best friend?"
He laughed. But it wasn't a natural happy humor filled one. It was filled with sarcasm, and a hint of malice.
"Kate is not my friend. I do not make or have any friends. She's a girl I fuck. Do you need to know more?"
"Then what am I?" She asked, biting her inner cheek, her eyes threatening to cry.
"You're Olivia. My dad's best friends daughter. That's it."
"How did I change from Liv the bestest friend to Olivia the dad's best friends daughter? I realize something bad happened and I wasn't here when it did but you can't just push me away!"
"Stop bringing the past up. I don't make or have friends." He repeated and walked out.
She watched his car disappear from her sight and wiped away the tears that had begun to stream down her face.
This wasn't the Jared she left. It felt like his mom had taken her best friend with her.
She sat down on the carpeted floor of the living room, and buried her face in her knees and cried.
This wasn't what she wanted. This wasn't what she expected her return to be like.
'That was the Jared you were so excited to meet? That boy who just shattered your heart and crushed it and walked away? Is that what you wanted liv?' she asked herself and cried.
'This was not what I wanted.'
