Chapter Twenty-Five

Jaime's POV: 

I stammered. My heart went to tell him the truth but my head silenced me. He continued looking at me with his big brown eyes, as if I didn't feel bad enough already. He held my phone in the palm of his hand. 

"Jaime, is this Jade-your-ex-girlfriend, Jade?" He asked, more sternly now. 

I looked down at my feet, scuffling my shoes in the stones beneath me. I nodded. 

"Why does she want to 'talk to you'?" He asked, referring to his most previous message.

"Because I met her, back in Arkansas. We had coffee." I told him. 

"And?" He asked. 

"And what?" I replied. 

"Well there must be a reason she's hassling you to talk to her. Your phone's been going mad ever since we the road back here. Stupidly I thought it was your Mom or something." Vic answered. 

"We kissed Vic." I blurted out. 

His eyes widened. He went to stand up, but I grabbed his wrist yanking him back down to sit on the steps with me. 

"But she kissed me." I protested. 

"Does it really matter?" He asked, coldly. 

"Yes, it does! You know I would never set out to cheat on you." I exclaimed. 

"Did you kiss her back?" He asked, his tone icy. 

"Vic..." I muttered. 

"Did you kiss her back?" He repeated himself. 

"Yes!" I shouted. "I did, okay? But it was only for a few seconds. Then I pushed her away and-". 

"I can't believe this." He said. 

I watched as he lifted himself from the step and headed towards the house. I followed like a lost puppy. 

"Vic please!" I said. 

I followed him into the dining room where as I walked in all eyes were on us. Everyone was sitting at the table, excluding Vic and I. Vic made his way over and sat next to Mike. Purposely avoiding the two free chairs, unallowing me to sit next to him. I made way over to the chair beside Tony. 

"Ah good, we're all here." Papa Fuentes smiled. 

I glanced over at Vic who was staring down at his plate, refusing to make eye contact with me. All I wanted was to walk over and throw my arms around him. I was pulled out of my daydreams by Tony elbowing me. 

"Is everything okay?" He whispered. 

"I don't know." I replied honestly.
