I woke up in the grass by the lake the next morning. Ky was still sleeping beside me. I fell asleep. I missed dinner with the guys. I jumped up and Ky woke up. " Morning." He said yawning. " How can you just say morning. I missed dinner and... Oh no. What time is it?" " If you're worried about food we can go get some." " It's not about the food. I missed dinner with my friends. Now tell me what time it is." " It's about 10:30am. Why?" " Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. I'm suppose to be at the competition at 11." " I'll help you." " How? Unless you have a super fast car or something. I am never getting there." " I don't have a super fast car... but will a super fast motorcycle work?" " Yes. Let's go." We hopped on the motorcycle and rushed to the hotel. I got into my jersey and black belt and said goodbye to Ky. I ran to the France dojo and ran in at 11:05. I ran to my bench while the sensei had his back turned. Jack was beside me looking mad and confused. " Where were you? You totally flaked out on us last night." Jack whispered. " Sorry. I went to a place where my mom used to take me and was just thinking about all the times when she was in my life and must have cried myself to sleep while I was thinking of how much I miss her." One thing I know about Jack is he will fall for the sappiest stories. It makes him feel bad about bring up my life. " Wow. I'm sorry for being mad. I feel like a jerk now. Are you ok?" He put an arm around me and had the saddest look. " Yeah. I'm ok." We turned around and started to listen to the sensei. " We are down to three countries. And before I announce them I would like to say, tardiness is not welcome." He looked directly at me. How could he see he had his back to me the entire time. " Our teams are," he continued. "China with Kim Crawford and Chang Young, France with Maria Melody and Alfred Detras, and America with Kate Green and Jack Beurrow. The battle will continue. But first the board thought it would be interesting to bring in a couple of new teams. Welcome Ireland with Brita Murphy and Conall Walsh, London with Alice Johnson and Angus Williams, and Mexico with Mia Garcia and José López." " What we were never told of a new team." The boy by Kim said to her. " Now this is a trial so no one will be eliminated this round. But the team with the highest points doesn't have to come in and practice tomorrow. First up. Kim from China and Mia from Mexico." They went up to the mat. Mia was small with short black hair. They started Kim was close to the edge and when Mia came for the kick, Kim stepped aside and Mia ran off the mat. Mia defeated herself. Next was Me and Brita Murphy from Ireland. Brita was twice my size and looked much tougher. The match began and we started I threw the first punch and missed. She then punch and it hit my stomach. I was knocked to the edge of the mat. I waited for her to strike. She finally went to lunch again and I grabbed her arm and swung her around. She fell out of the ring with one finally kick. Everyone was so good. The match took four hours. And after the final match the sensei stood up. " You all did exceptional. But there can only be one winner. The team that gets the day off is.... America with Kate Green and Jack Burrower. Congratulations. " Everyone burst into cheers. I jump up and hug Jack. The sensei hushed everyone and began talking again. " For everyone else I expect you here at eight in the morning. The next tournament takes place first thing in two days. Enjoy." Then he walked away. " I can't believe we won." I said to Jack. " I can. You did great." He said looking into my eyes. Rudy came over to us. " So what are you two planning to do tomorrow." He asked. " I was thinking of taking Jack to see a special place. Then tonight we can all go bowling." I said. " Sounds good to us." Milton said coming over with Jerry by his side. " Ok. See you guys tomorrow night." Jack said. They left and me and Jack were walking to the hotel alone. " So this time your taking me on the surprise date." " Yes. And we leave at 8am." " ok." He walked up to his room and I walked to mine. When I got there I laid down on my bed. I had great plans for tomorrow. Then Kim walked in. She walked over to where I was. " So. What are you and Jack going to do tomorrow?" She asked. " Nothing much." " That should be my day." She said under her breath as she walked to her bed. " What?" I asked sitting up. " Nothing." She laid down and rolled over. I laid back down and fell asleep. The next day I awoke and saw Kim already left. I got into a tan shirt with two finger length straps with black letters saying free to dream. I put on a pair of short jean shorts and black saddles. I walked out the door and down the hall to Jack's room. I knocked on the door and he answered immediately. He was dressed in a orange short sleeve shirt and a pair of jeans with black tennishoes. " You ready?" I asked. " Yep. Where are we going?" " If I told you it wouldn't be a surprise now would it." He gave a smile. Then we were off. It took a little bit to get there. But it was worth it.

We walked up to a section of woods with a clearing in the middle. In the clearing was a blanket and on top of it was a picnic basket. " Wow. What is this place?" Jack asked with amazement in his eyes. " Before my dad went searching for the scroll we lived in Paris. This is where my mom took me when I was little." " It's a beautiful spot." We walked over to the blanket and sat down. There was strawberries and grapes in the basket. We had a fun time talking and eating. When He got up and help me to my feet. " This was awesome getting to spend sometime with you." Jack said. " It's not over yet." I could see he was confused. " What?" I took off running into the forest. " So now we're playing hide and seek. Ok." He went looking and I hid behind a bush. He was walking by my hiding place. " Kate.. Where are you?" He walked passed and when I thought it was safe to find another place I stood up. " Got you." He said behind me. I was startled and started to fall back. He tried to catch me but tripped on a rock and we both fell, him on top of me. We started laughing then realized how close our faces were. We stared into each other eyes and then he leaned down putting a soft kiss on my lips. It seemed like it lasted forever and I didn't want it to stop. Then we heard rustling in the trees and a stick fall. " What was that?" I asked. " Probably just the wind." Jack said getting to his feet then helping me up. He might have thought it was just the wind but I knew better. I knew exactly what that was. We packed up as the last hours of daylight were draining away. We said goodnight and headed off to our rooms. After I got to my room I reached for my phone and called Ky. I told him to meet me in the roof. When he got there I was waiting. " What was that?" I asked. " What was what?" He acted stupid. " Why were you spying on me and Jack?" " It's not what you think." " Know what. I started to think I could trust you again but now look." " I'm sorry. I was just looking out for you." " You were looking out for me? I don't need you to look out for me. Your acting just like my dad." Then I left and went into my room.
