I looked up to see Hayden walking over to me. She was pretty with her dark hair and light eyes. But she was also kind of strange. She didn't really talk much, and she acted like she had something to hide.

"Hi." She said quietly.

Her voice sounded weak and fragile.

"Hey." I said back flashing her a smile.

She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.

"So, what artist were you thinking about picking?" She asked me, looking at her converse.

"Umm, I was thinking Van Gogh, he is one of my favorites."

"Yeah, I like him too. I was thinking we could do starry night if that's alright with you." She said hesitantly.

"Yeah that'd be great." I said.

She just nodded and kind of half smiled. I don't know why she was being like this. She seemed very nervous and shy.

The silence seemed to last forever. She just stood there fidgeting with her fingers, and avoiding my eyes.

I was never shy, so I decided to pick up the conversation.

"So, should we get together at my house? We should probably get together as soon as possible so we can get this done. I don't live far from campus, so we could walk to my place after school."

She finally looked up at me.

"Yeah I can do that, just meet me out front at the end of the day I guess." She said still fidgeting with he fingers.

"Perfect." I said shooting her a cocky smile.

Then she walked away. I don't know what was making her so quiet, or why she seemed so nervous, but I was determined to find out. I don't even know why I cared. I guess it was almost a challenge for myself. Could I make the shyest girl in school fall for me? Challenge accepted.

The day seemed to drag on, but eventually the bell rang. Which meant I could go home from this prison they call college.

I sat on the front steps waiting for Hayden. In all honesty I almost forgot about getting together with her, I just wanted to go home.

I saw her out of the corner of my eye. There was a light breeze blowing through her hair. She really was quite pretty. I waved to her, motioning to come over. She walked towards me slowly, again she was acting shy.

"Alright, my house is right down this block, so we should be there in a few minutes." I said.

"Alright, whatever." She said quietly.

We started making our way over to my house.

"Well since we are going to be working together for the next two weeks, I might as well get to know you better." I said.

She didn't really seem that enthusiastic, she just kind of looked up at me.

"So...what is your family like?"

The question seemed to catch her off guard because she stopped walking and her expression went completely blank.

"You alright love?" I asked her.

A couple of seconds went by before she finally answered.

"Oh...my family? We are just your average family, she managed to stammer out.

I could tell she wasn't being completely honest with me.

Finally we arrived at my house and went up to my room to get working on the project.

She was still being very awkward. She didn't say a single word when we were in the house. I had to find a way to loosen her up a bit.

"So, I thought we would start out with the painting because that will probably be the hardest part." I said to her.

"Yeah sure it doesn't matter to me. You will probably have to do most of the painting...I'm not very good." She said still looking down.

Wow that was the most I have heard her say yet.

"Oh c'mon, I have seen some of your work in the art room. You are really good." I said.

Truth is, I have never seen any of her work. But I needed to make her more comfortable around me.

I went to the bathroom and changed into an old T-shirt and some ripped sweatpants. I brought her back one of my older T-shirts to put on.

"Here put this on." I said. Tossing her the shirt.

She looked at it hesitantly.

"C'mon you don't want to get your nice sweater all full of paint, do you love?"

"I guess your right, I'll be right back." She said walking towards the bathroom.

When she came back with my T-shirt on she looked even prettier than before. Her hair was pulled up into a messy knot on her head. I loved how she didn't need to be dressed up to be pretty. She looked good when she was natural.

"Thanks for the shirt." She said shyly.

I actually saw her smile slightly. Maybe I was doing something right.

I grabbed all of the materials we would need. Staring at the blank canvas I had millions of ideas running through my head. I loved art, and I knew that was one thing me and Hayden had in common. Maybe I could use that to loosen her up.

We finished painting the sky, and we had to wait for it to dry. We had some time to kill, so I started asking her more questions.

"So what's your favorite type of art? I mean, do you like painting, drawing, ceramics? What's your favorite?"

"I love drawing." She said.

She actually smiled when she said that. In those few words I could hear that she was actually happy. Finally I found something that she is comfortable talking about.

"Cool. I'm more of a painter. It's the one thing I'm really good at." I said, trying to show some emotion.

"We'll I can tell you're a painter. You are really good." She said.

"Thanks, I would love to see some of your drawings some time." I said giving her a cheeky smile.

"Maybe." She chuckled.

I actually felt like I was getting to know her. This might be easier than I thought.
