*2 years later*
I picked up my bag from beside the door, locking the door behind me.
I have a job at a law firm down the street from my apartment and I'm a high scale attorney. I haven't talked to Spencer since the day I walked out of the apartment.
I haven't seen anyone from my old job since then either.
I walked into the law firm, smiling at my assistant, Allison, also known as my best friend.
"Hey Sarah," she smiles. "Are we still going out for drinks tonight?"
"Hi Ally, yes we're are, as long as I finish work in time," I smile. "I have a case in the town over, do you wanna tag along?"
"Yes, I would love too."
I grab my papers from my office and got back into my car with Allison. I went inside, setting up at my desk.
"Alright, let's get started, this is the FBI against Claire Dunbar," the judge says. "Mrs. Heath, I'm calling the first witness to the stand."
I finished reading my file when he walked out. His hair was shorter, his eyes kind of down. That's when he saw me.
"Oh..shit." I whispered down at Allison.
"Is that him?" Allison asks. "The FBI dude?"
I nodded. I couldn't leave. I wasn't losing a thousand bucks for this.
"Alright, Doctor Spencer Reid, can you explain to me what happened the day Mrs. Dunbar was arrested." I said, approaching the witness stand.
"Well, we uh, we had a break in the case when Agent Jennifer Jareau came up with a theory that the suspect was bludgeoning the victims with a high heel shoe instead of some other type of object." He said, avoiding my eye contact, which was kind of hard because it's a part of my job to make eye contacts with the witnesses.
"Uh-huh, now working in the..profiling unit, all your theories are just..educated guesses, correct?" I say, biting the end of my pen.
"Sarah, you know how that goes," he said, staring right into me. I raised my eyebrows. "Okay, yes sometimes we do make educated guesses but there is always enough evidence to back them up. All our theories are based off of the crime committed."
"So, when you made an..educated guess that Ms. Dunbar was working at a laundry mat, you only checked half of the town's staff, why is that?"
"Well, there were only 4 that were in the middle of the killing areas, it was another shot in the dark." He says, playing with his fingers.
"So, say this went wrong and Claire died, you'd just explain to her parents and the judge that is was just..a shot in the dark?"
"Well, no, I-"
I turned towards the jury. "The truth is, Doctor Spencer Reid just bases all his 'guesses' off of his so called information, the truth is, he tricked Mrs. Dunbar into getting herself arrested. I do not disagree on the count of her charges but on which ground she was arrested, are considered..illegal."
"We still got her in custody. That's all that matters." Reid says.
I turn towards the court and see the entire team sitting there, making me even more nervous.
"I suggest that we reduce her sentence by two years in account that she was arrested on unlawful terms." I say to the judge.
"Motion granted." She says and bangs her gravel.
I won.
I quickly shake Claire's hand and follow Ally back out into the parking lot.
I'm about to get into the car when someone grabs my arm, turning me around to face them.
"Uh hey." He says, running a hand through his hair.
"Hi, Spencer."
"So, you're a lawyer now, yeah?" He says, trying to make conversation.
"Look, Spencer, I'm sorry I have to go, it was nice seeing you though."
I turn around, about to walk away when a thought hits me.
Oh, I'm gonna regret this.
I turn back around, letting it out before I can stop;
"Do you wanna go get a drink?"
"Uh sure, yeah, I would like that." He smiles.
"Ally," I said, turning to my assistant. "Take the car to the office and I'll see you later."
She nods as I follow Spencer to his car.
He opens the door for me, causing me to smile.I give him directions to the bar and we're there in a few minutes.
He follows me inside, my heels clicking against the sidewalk.
We sir together at the bar. "A blueberry mojito please."
I turn towards Spencer. "Just water."
We talk for a little while, not really talking though. If that makes sense. It's just an awkward mess.
I finish my drink and he drives me home.
We walks me to my door and stands in front of me as pull my keys out.
"Well thanks for taking me out tonight, it was nice seeing you." I smiled, intertwining my fingers.
"It was my pleasure."
He reaches his hand up and touches my face, his thumb resting against my cheekbone.
Then suddenly, there's a blinding white light.
