"Hello..." I checked to make sure the patient wasn't ready to attack me before opening the door the rest of the way.
"Pills again..." The girl mumbled.
"You talked!"
She glared at me. "Yeah..."
I silenced myself immediately, realizing my comment might have offended her.
"Sorry."
She didn't answer, but instead turned away.
"Hey..." I held the medicine out to her but she didn't grab them. "Hey... girl? Here you go."
The girl snapped them from me quickly. "My name isn't girl." She mumbled.
"What?"
"Sam, short for Samantha."
I stood there for a moment quietly.
"My name... It's Sam."
"Oh. Mine is Jay, short for James."
I held my hand out to her but she backed up.
"Please go... Jay."
"Oh- Okay." I stumbled out of the doorway.
