"Hey Sam."
I stared down at her. Sam's face looked peaceful as she slept. I couldn't even...
"I- I..." I took a deep breath. "I know you probably can't hear me right now. But, I just need to talk to you." I choked out a quick laugh.
"I've missed you. I know it has only been one day, but... Gah. I don't even know what I'm saying."
I wrung my hands together. "The nurse told me what's wrong with you. I know I should've waited until you were ready to tell me yourself."
She didn't respond. How could she?
"You have Cardiomyopathy. That's why you are here. Your case is severe. Apparently, your heart is weak and you have to stay here so they can observe your symptoms and get you immediate help if you need it. She said you had a minor heart attack the other night."
I eyed the tubes going in and out of her body. The beeping of the monitor quietly hummed in my ears.
"I was really worried. I just found your... sketchbook on the floor."
I shook my head, unsure what I should say next, if anything.
"I know I have only known you for two months. This is all I know about you:
Your name is Samantha Jayne White. You are sixteen years old, almost seventeen. You love to draw and write poetry. Which, you are amazing at both. You don't like cheese pizza, except from Little Caesars. You hate the cafeteria food. You love flowers. You love surprises, except when they scare you. You are psychic. You hate living here at the hospital. You have a mom, who you love very much. You like staring at stars and making wishes on them. You have an incurable heart disease. You are dying. You have the most contagious laugh I have ever heard, the most caring personality, the most beautiful smile.
Sam, you are beautiful. And, I didn't mean what I said the other night. I like you in the weird crushy way. I do."
Samantha's mouth tipped up at the edges and she... Sam smiled. I smiled too, not caring if she actually heard what I had said.
"Bye, Sam." I squeezed her hand just before leaving the room with a childish grin plastered on my face.
I had a crush on Sam.
