Nothing came to memory. Not even my family, friends, home, basically my entire life. The only thing I remember is my name, Jay. Not my last, just my first.

Metal, the smell and sound was all around me. Was I in a cage? My eyes eventually adapted to the darkness and a large cow was in front of me. I screamed at the sight and put myself in a corner.

The crate stopped. I stood up and looked around me more. Where am I?

Bright lights appeared. I used my hand to block the light from my eyes. Murmuring began, but I could only see shadows.

"It's a girl." Someone jumped down and rocked the crate. The voice was a thick British accent. When my eyes adjusted, I was surrounded by boys.

"Hey," a dark-skinned boy jumped down, "Newt help her up. What's your name greenie?"

What the bloody hell does 'Greenie' mean? My thoughts went crazy.

"Jay." The boys helped me out of the crate. Again I was surrounded by more boys. Fear ran over me.

"What job do you think she'll get?" One boy asked.

"Nah, don't they usually clean and cook. She'll be with Frypan." Another said. The boys just talked about me more, and some comments made me want to punch them in the nose.

The only thing I could imagine was just running, so I did.

"We got a runner!" I heard a boy yell this from the back behind me. I just continued running as fast as I could. Finally I stopped, but my landing ended in a sliding small kick. Gasping for air, I looked around in circles.

"Where am I?" Concreate walls ran around the entire place.

"Welcome to the Glade." The dark skinned boy walked up to me, "Name's Alby." He was taller than me, but aren't all the boys. By the way he was dressed and the way he stood, he seemed like either the leader or a soldier. His hair was cut short and he had yellowish teeth. Bad hygiene in this place.

The blond boy earlier with the accent ran up. He had a dorky grin on his face and squinted at the sun. "I'm Newt." My heart fluttered for a second at his accent again. He had piercing hazel eyes and dirty blond hair. He looked to have a limp on his left-no right leg. The limp is not psychosomatic, so it must actually be real. He had some of the saddest eyes I have ever seen, and that is saying something for a girl who does not remember a darn thing about her past.

"Jay." I shook his hand and smiled a bit, but don't think it shone. She had a firm grip, but was cleaner than some of the other boys were.

"Alby will give you the tour, and Chuck will find you a bed. Tomorrow you start finding your job." Newt nodded at Alby and headed off. Alby turned to me and smiled.

"Follow me." I did as commanded.

Chuck walked up to me and shook my hand. "We have never had a girl here before. It's pretty cool." He laughed. He was a chubby, short kid with curly hair. He looked no more than fourteen. Chuck seemed to be the youngest by the way his age looked. Deducing him was a simple part, but I suppose it was alright with him being simple.

I followed Chuck to a tree. "This is where I sleep with Thomas, but you are welcome to join us, or you can go over to where Newt stays. I mean, ugh, that came out wrong." I put my hand on his shoulder.

"I understand. Chuck, how old do I look." I sat on the ground and played with a small pebble.

"You have bright blue eyes, and dark brown hair. Your hair is a bit wavy and you look no more than 5'4. I would say around 16." Chuck gave a good description of myself. Even if I had no idea what I looked like.

It was getting dark and one of the walls began to close. "What's out there?" I looked at a group of boys barely make it out before the walls closed.

"The Maze. Those are Runners, they are the only ones out. Hey, but you need to sleep, you have a long day tomorrow." I nodded my head in agreement and laid down. The night stars shone above me and I eventually fell asleep.
