"No, they can't be in here." I looked at Minho, trying to convince myself that this was not happening.

"They are. Someone said they saw Thomas and the girl walk in here." Minho began walking through the crowd.

"That girl's name is Brenda muchacho. Hello Everyone!" Jorge yelled this and all the Cranks looked at us. "So, who wants to party?" Jorge smiled and put his arms out.

A naraly Crank walked up. His clothes falling off of him, hair falling out, one eye gone, and his skin peeling off of his face and body. The guy had stained blood all over his body and clothes. "I'm going to give you a warning. Leave, before we hurt you." Spit and blood sprayed from his mouth.

"Don't think so muchacho. We are trying to find our friends." Jorge stayed himself and looked at the now two men.

The man who just walked up, looked exactly like the other, but with one green eye, punched Jorge in the gut.

"Hey! He did nothing to you!" I walked up and yelled this. Stupid person, what is the matter with you?!

"Oh, Pretty Face." The first Crank came over and started petting my face. He was drenched in alcohol, which made me gag. "Come here." He pulled me in and put a knife against my neck.

"Let her go, you bloody Crank." Newt walked up and looked furious.

"What did you say to me?" The Crank through me into the others arms and the other just chuckled. He stroked my face and crackled while watching the other walk towards my brother.

"I said, 'Let her go, you bloody Crank.'" Newt made the last two words stand out. The Crank smiled and punched my brother.

"Newt! Let. Go. Of. Me." I wiggled in the Cranks arms. Newt got up from the ground and swung his knife at the Cranks neck. The Cranks gasped for air, fell to his knees and passed out.

Another Crank walked up and checked his pulse. "You killed him." The Crank holding me looked at me with his piercing green eye.

"You just started a war boy." He said this to Newt and pushed the knife on my neck. I screamed in pain. Blood began to spread on the knife.

"Let go of her." Jorge hit the Crank across the head, making him fall to the ground. I fell with the force, but Newt got ahold of me. When I was finally on my feet, all the Cranks attacked.

I took out my sword and began fighting. Newt was across the room with Frypan fighting and Minho was with Jorge. I smiled as I put my knife into one of the Cranks and spinning around to another.

I saw a Crank leave down through a door, and yelled for Minho. When we made eye contact I signaled him to check out the door. He left and I went with Jorge.

Eventually all the Cranks were either dead, ran away, or we where in the process of tying up. "Jay, get that last bunch." Newt said this as he finished tying up some drunk girls. One asleep, one googly eyed at Newt, and the other covered in her throwup.

"Got 'em." Minho walked up with Brenda and Thomas. "They were in kind of a bundle." Jorge gave Brenda a hug in relief and Thomas sighed. We made eye contact, but I looked away. He was no longer the person in my heart. No one was, I had no room.

"Let's start going." After Jorge asked the Cranks a few questions we were back on our way. Newt walked next to me as usual.

Half way through our tretuous journey Newt spoke up. "What is with the coldness to Thomas? I thought you and him liked each other." Newt walked through the sand.

"I have no room for people to love. Not just in my life, but in my heart. Everyone I care about gets hurt by me, or threatened. So, I decided that if I hurt everyone, I should just block everyone out." Ever since I woke up in the Scorch, I knew I was alone. "Everyone leaves and abandons you at some point. My thought process is that 'if I get abandoned, and everyone eventually leaves; what is the use of having them around and in your heart?'" I quickened my pace and walked ahead of everyone; even if Newt and I were already in the front.

"Jay!" Newt's voice became a noise in the background at this point. "Jay!" He spinned me around to face him. We had stopped walking. "I did not abandon you. I would never."

"Really, what do you call the escape in the Maze. You could have stopped that Griever. You could have saved Rose and I and maybe, just maybe, Rose could still be alive!" I pushed out of my brothers grasp with tears in my eyes.

"What do you mean, Rose could still be alive?" Newt looked heart broken.

"I woke up in the Scorch with Rose. Both of our memories were back and we began our journey. This scar. It was from Rose trying to save me." I unwrapped my arm revealing the large scar on my arm. Minho, Jorge, Brenda, everyone's face was in shock. "We were being attacked by Cranks. They got ahold of me and had knifes out. Technically, they took our knifes. Rose had never fought with these things in her life. She always had the Grievers protect her, and I am use to it because of the Glader boys." I stopped. Tears ran down my face and my voice was beginning to crack.

"J-Jay." Minho stepped forward.

"They had Rose in a lock. I went to get her and the Crank switched Rose with me. He had cut me in the process and I kicked him in the leg. Then decapitated him. Rose and I thought it was a victory, but an unknown Crank lay behind her and stabbed her in the back. I killed the Crank out of a reflex, but it was too late for Rose. She is dead Newt." My tears pouring out, and Newt's eyes watering. "Rose died in my arms. Newt, Rose is dead." I turned back around and walked forward.

I ran way ahead of everyone and let the tears come. My best friend died because of me, and my brother, Thomas, Minho, everyone could have saved us. My heart had no room for anyone to love. Rose, Chuck, Gally, Alby, Winston, and others were dead. All having to revolve around me, the Maze, Thomas, and that traitor Teresa. What is the use of loving someone, who you know is going to die in the end.

"It's getting dark, let's rest here." We were in another abandoned town, but heard no Cranks. We all agreed to Thomas' remark and camped under one of the broken buildings.

I slept away from the group to grasp my thoughts. "You know, it is a good thing you talked that all out." Thomas walked up and sat next to me.

"Now you know why I find it it hard to keep people in my heart. Why I am so cold to people now." I sighed and played with a pebble on the ground.

"Maybe you could open your heart to some people. For example, Newt or Minho. Even me, your friend." Thomas looked at me, but I refused to meet his gaze.

"No." I threw the pebble at the hallway. "There is no use. You all could die and I would be heartbroken again. I refuse to feel that pain all over again. That is why I concluded that I shouldn't get attached, because the moment I do, you die." Thomas turned me towards Newt.

"Look at him. Jay, Newt is your brother." I nodded my head in agreement. "So, that means that you have no choice but to love him. It is in your sibling instincts to hate him, yet love him. That is why you should at least keep him in your heart." Thomas had his hand on my chest, which made me feel uncomfortable. Plus, his hand was not just pointing at my chest, but flat lying at my heart. Actually on my sternum, but still it was uncomfortable.

I coughed and turned away. "Yeah, well, I guess you could call that a curse." I laid down in my small bed I created. "Goodnight." Turning over I closed my eyes. Keeping them closed until Thomas left, and then turning back towards the wall. My heart raced and I felt my cheeks getting red.

No! Jay you are not allowed to have feelings for him. Who knows, Brenda and Jorge can turn against them and kill everyone of them, including yourself. Or a Crank could come and kill them. No Feelings!

I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. That night, you could hear a Crank or two screaming.
