"Jay." Newt finally spoke to me after our third day of walking. We rested and waited for Thomas to return.

"How long do you think he will take? Thomas disappeared around two nights ago and we have just been walking away? We keep on moving even if we don't know if he is alive. Newt," I looked at my brother as we walked down steep rocks. "Time is almost up, and we have no idea where he is."

"Jay, Tommy will be fine. He knows where we are going and we have a day left. He will make it." Newt created a half smile. "You like him still."

"What!? No, I don't." I hit Newt on the arm as we came to a slow jog.

"Fine, don't admit it. You still have people in that cold heart of yours. Three that I know of right now. Me, Minho, and Tommy." Newt kept his smile on his face, and that made one grow on mine.

"Would you look at that. The robot does have emotions." Newt laughed and nudged me on my arm.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm not a robot you Shank." I nudged him in the side and laughed. It was nice to finally laugh again, and it almost felt like the old days.

"Be the Jay I remember, not the Jay from the Maze, or here. Not the Jay that worked with W.C.K.D. Be the Jay that lived with Mum, Dad and I." Newt caught me in my path. "You remember that you, so please, be that you. Don't let people's thoughts, actions, and feelings get in the way of yours." Newt smiled. He pulled me into a hug.

I welcomed his warmth and hugged him back. "I love you, Jay." For once, I felt like being my old self. To let this emotionless, person go and to let the little girl come back. The little sister that once looked up to her big brother, Newt.

"I love you too, big bro." My accent had almost come back. He released his hug on me and smiled.

"Come on, let's catch up with the others." Newt and I jogged up to Minho. Minho looked over a cliff and pointed his finger at a group of girls.

"Group B. Thomas and Aris are probably with them. If we catch up with them, we will make it to the Safe House just in time." Minho gestured us to follow, and we all jogged down the hill.

It was a jagged cliff that was steep. There was asphalt and slick rocks that covered the path, so we had to keep our footing in place. "Careful Jay." I nodded my head yes to Newt's remark and smiled.

My old self was just about to come to back, and that actually felt a bit relieving. Letting the W.C.K.D. me go, felt like a burden being lifted from my shoulders. The path was slippery, but I managed.

Minho was in front of me, Newt behind, and everyone else in the back. There was a forest to our right and more rocks and sand to our left. Through the forest I saw a group of three people. They could not come out clear, so I ignored who it was and continued to watch my footing.

When we got to the solid ground, Minho yelled run and we all did. Running the fastest I have ever ran in my life and just doing so. Newt was not far behind me, and I could see him wincing a bit. His leg probably killed him; unlike me, my leg had half-healed. That means I don't feel so much pain in my leg when I run.

"Come on, Newt. You. Can. Do. It." I ran backwards and looked like a tough guy. Newt laughed and signaled for me to turn around.

I did as my brother commanded and continued running. The three people now had gotten closer and relief came over me. Not just that but anger, shock, and confusion.

The three people where Aris, Thomas, and Teresa. Thomas ran up next to us and greeted. By the time Aris was up, we had already rejoined Group B.

"Here we are." Thomas panted as we all came to a halt. The place was like before, a desolate wasteland.

"Are you sure this is the place? I mean, shouldn't something be happening?" I turned towards Thomas and looked up at him. His brown eyes shone in the sun, and they gave off some relieving feeling.

"Just be patient." Thomas had a soft voice on. He smiled down at me, and that is something I had missed. Him, my brother, Minho, all the Gladers. "By the look on your face, it looks like you finally opened that cold heart of yours."

"Yeah, I thought it would be nice just trying to change back to where I was." I smiled up at him. "Hey! I don't have a cold heart." I yelled this and punched him in the arm.

Almost on command tones of pods came up. I had no means to want to count how many, but all I knew was that there was a lot. When the pods opened, slimy things came out.

They looked human, but also Griever. Each had some type of spikes on and they began to charge. The Gladers on Group A and B began to attack. Each getting their own creature, and even me.

The one I got made me remember the Crank that had me in a headlock, the same Crank that punched Newt. Although that Crank reminded me of the one that killed Rose. The Crank that killed her reminded me of Gally. Each threat in my life has reminded me of that slinthead.

I took out my knife and sliced the creature's head off, quickly. "Well, that was easy." Newt struggled with his creature so I went over to help him. Aris jumped in front of me with his creature on his back, and I had to help him first. Although I kept my eye on my brother, and Minho. Minho had went to help Newt after he was done with his.

Aris got free finally and I ran over to Newt. He panted and had a cut on his arm. It was not deep, but it was bleeding.

"You have to be careful for it to not to hit you." I took off the scarf from my arm and put it on his. "It won't scar, so don't be worried." I laughed as I wrapped it on the wound.

"Uh, oh." Minho looked up at the dark clouds surrounding us. "Everyone take cover!" We all ran into the pods. A lightning storm had strick. Killing the creatures and other Gladers. Although all of this was happening, we still stayed inside of the pods.

I was with Newt, Minho, and Frypan. The pod had slimy water at the bottom that smelt disgusting. We sat in silence as the storm went on. My heart raced and I began to worry.

Newt grabbed my shaking hands and looked me dead in the eyes. "It is going to be alright Jay. I promise you." Newt pulled me in closer to him, which made the small pod seem smaller.

"How cute, now do any of you know how to get us out of here?" Frypan tried to adjust himself to a comfortable position, but Minho hit him.

"Stop it, you are bothering me. Plus, I don't hear it anymore." Minho opened the top of the pod. "It stopped." Instantly he jumped out and started to warn the other pods.

We all go out to see a huge Berg landing in the middle of the circle. A large creat opened and two men ran out pulling every child they found.

When I got in with Newt, I began looking for Thomas and Jorge. "Newt, I don't see Thomas."

"He'll come Jay, I promise." Newt pulled me in closer to him and we saw Thomas running, no, sprinting towards us.

"Hurry!" We all yelled this at the four and they all continued to run. Each getting on. Minho grabbed the hanging Thomas and pulled him up. We were all in safe and sound.

Two guards pushed Brenda and Jorge to the edge. "These are fugitives." The conversation with Thomas and the guards went on, but I could not hear. I was too far in the back by now, and Newt had gone up without me. Telling me to stay put, and safe.
