Jay's POV

I woke up to a slimy touch on my leg. When I pried my eyes opened an full sized Griever was laying next to me. My heart raced. Scream or figure out a way without waking it up? Either way it's going to wake up.

My lungs released a loud piercing scream. Instantly, Rose ran in and covered my mouth.

"Be quiet, don't wake him up. Now, are you going to be alright?" I nodded my head yes and she released me.

"This isn't James, is it?" I looked at the Griever that just rolled over. It's metal pieces clinking to the floor.

"No, this is Thraz. He is the Alpha out of them all. Other than James, he is the second in command." Rose helped me up. "You should get going. The doors have been opened for around two hours already."

"Did you see anyone come through?" I grabbed my backpack and a water and began walking out.

"Yes, your friend Minho and the other one Thomas." Thomas, I almost forgot about him. Why was he acting weird that day?

"I'll be off." I walked out, but felt a slimy thing touch my back.

"He likes you." I turned around to see Thraz behind me. Making whining noises.

"H-He does? Why?" My heart raced. Last time I was this close to a Griever it attacked me.

"I don't know. He really does not like much people. Hey! I just had an idea." Rose jumped up and James came to her side. "Why don't you ride Thraz to the opening and I will ride James. We will show you home and you will only have to run a little bit."

It was one of the best ideas. My leg was not healed, and my big run yesterday won't allow me to run today. "Alright, how do you ride of of these shuck things?"

"First, don't call them slintheads, shuck things, shanks, or any other derogatory term you use in the Glade." For a girl who was trapped inside of here she sure knew a lot about the Glade.

I tried getting on, but slipped off.

"Here wear this." She handed me greasy guards. "This will help you get a grip, so you can ride them. Also they allow you to not get that much slime on you." I did as told.

The guards went on my hands and legs. When I climbed on, I got a good grip and did not slip anymore. "I think I have a hang of this." The Griever, Thraz moved around and then stopped. He made another whining sound, but it sounded more happy than sad.

They have emotions, feeling, and families. I looked around at the other Grievers around me and Rose. We fear them, but what if they just fear us? What if the reason they kill is because they threatened Rose and she freaked?

"You ready? Thraz will just follow James, and James will follow my commands." Rose smiled and Thraz began to move. I tried to get my grip again, but I did not have the brace on for a second and almost slipped. He stopped, looked at me, and when I got my grip back, he continued.

The ride was quick, but a bit tiring. The sun was hot and beat against us. I gave Thraz some water to keep him moist. Eventually I fell asleep.

"Jay? Jay!" I woke up to Rose hitting me in my arm.

"What? Are we here?" She nodded her head in a stupid way. I got off of Thraz and said goodbye to him. He made another sad whining sound and nudged his head into my arm.

"No, Thraz, I have to leave. I am going home." I smiled at the creature, rubbed his head and walked over to Rose. "Thank you Rose for everything. I would be klunk if it wasn't for you." I smiled. She smiled back and said "You are very welcome. Come back and visit, mate."
