The door burst open. Gigi and Brandon were there with worried expressions on their faces.

Josh and I immediately broke the hug, but it was too late. I felt my face heat up.

Josh cleared his throat and stood up, straightening his clothes. Gigi and Brandon walked in slowly, eyeing us suspiciously.

There was a long minute of silence. Brandon then spoke up. "So, Josh, man. You wanna head to the snack bar while the girls have a little talk on their own?"

Josh took a deep breath and smiled at me before he left. They shut the door, leaving me and Gigi alone.

I sighed. "Gigi, it wasn't what-" I got cut off by Gigi squealing. She broke into a grin. "OMG! You two looked so cute! Did you kiss? I mean, you definitely hugged. Dang it! I should've took a picture!"

I just sat there listening to Gigi rambling on about the hug. She was walking around, mumbling things about how she could get me and Josh together.

I groaned. I grabbed Gigi's phone and called Brandon. I'm not surprised that she had Brandon's number. 80 percent of her contacts are boys she dated or crushed on.

The phone was ringing. "Hello?" a voice asked. "Brandon? Hi. It's Emily. Can you please hurry? Gi is getting crazy."

Brandon laughed through the phone. "Yeah, that sounds like Gigi. I'll get her something. Josh is getting some soup for you so we'll be there soon." He then hung up.

Josh is getting me soup? That's new.

Josh

I walked back to Brandon with our food and Emily's soup. "Dude, I just got off the phone with Emily. She wants us to hurry because Gigi is acting up." He laughed. "I could hear Gigi rambling on and on in the background."

I watched as he talks about Gigi. He must really like her. They sound inseparable.

Brandon's phone rang again, pushing me away from my thoughts. "Hello?" He was silent then laughed. He put it on speaker.

"Can you guys hurry? I think Gigi is sugar high."

We laughed while Brandon hung up. "So what's up with you and Emily? You two looked so inseparable while hugging each other," Brandon stated.

Inseparable.

"Uh, nothing really. Nothing is going on between us."

Brandon laughed. "Alright. Whatever you say. But I advise you to hold onto her. You wouldn't want to lose someone like her. Just like me and Gigi. I could never let go of her. She's my world."

Never let her go. I might lose her. My world. What did he mean? I looked up and noticed Brandon was already heading back.

Emily

When the door opened slightly, I saw Brandon and Josh's head peek in. I was furious. They took 15 minutes and just came back with 3 sandwiches and a bowl of soup?!

"Get the hell in here!!" I screamed. Brandon quickly handed the food to Josh and ran over to Gigi.

Josh came over to me while watching Gigi and Brandon curiously. I was interested in how Brandon would calm Gigi down so I watched them too.

Brandon whispered something in Gigi's ear and Gigi blushed then giggled. She gave him a kiss on his lips and he gave her one back.

A few seconds later, they were both making out in front of us. Josh and I cringed.

"Can you guys get a room?" Josh asked in annoyance. I groaned. "You two are disgusting."

Gigi broke the kiss. She looked at me confused. "Why not? You were practically making out with Josh earlier."

Josh and I immediately turned red. "It wasn't making out. Just a hug!" I shouted.

Brandon laughed. "You look hilarious, the both of you. Are you on your period or something?"

Josh's eyes widened. "Dude, you did not just go there."

I lunged towards Brandon. "Whoa! Emily, calm down!" Josh shouted.

"Um, you two might want to go. Emily won't be calming down any time soon," Josh suggested.

"Yeah, do that. And next time, bring me something nice in case you don't want to go home with broken bones," I snapped.

Brandon put his hands up in surrender. Gigi snickered. She grabbed his hand. "Alright. Bye, Emily."

They headed towards the door. When Josh's back was turned, Gigi made a kissy face and did a heart gesture with her hands.

I gritted my teeth. When the door shut, I relaxed and flopped backwards on the bed.

"You okay?" Josh asked. "Yeah. Just annoyed and tired." I sighed.

"When am I able to go home?" I asked. "I think by today. But you still need to rest," Josh replied.

I groaned and rolled to my side. "A little fainting won't do any harm. I just wanna go home."

Josh stopped what he was doing and walked over to me. He sat down next to my body. "A little fainting?" I could feel his movement on my back.

"Emily, you fainted because of depression. How is that a little? You scared me to death! I watched as your limp body fell backwards! Going through all the trouble in the past, and you call this a little faint?!"

I heard his heavy breathing. "Do you think I don't know?!" I sat up immediately and turned my head to face him. Big mistake.

My face was inches away from his. I froze and we stared in each other's eyes. I could feel his hot, peppermint breath on my cheek. I blinked and a tear fell out slowly.

I noticed Josh's eyes following the tear flowing downwards. He then looked up back into my brown pupils.

"Do you know the pain I've suffered? Living without a mother for years and fearing a father who could come for me at any time? I always had to be cautious. I fear my father. My own flesh and blood. I just want someone to help me. To protect me."

I broke eye contact and shut my eyes tightly. A sob came out of my mouth. I looked down at my hands. I felt weak and lifeless.

Suddenly, a finger lifted my chin up and I met Josh's beautiful eyes again. My breath hitched.

"I would never leave you alone when you are feeling like this. You need someone and I'll be that person. Emily, you need help. Let me help you," he said.

"You will?" I whispered. He smiled softly and nodded. "Anytime you want." He embraced me in his comfy and warm hugs. And for once in my life, I felt safe.
