Robins!

Court of Owls Part 1

"Bruce, you know I have to do it."

"But Dick!  I'll lose you..."

"But you'll still have Damian.  I have to do this for him, for you."

"But you...."

"Bruce, that stupid note was no joke.  They said they would take Damian back, but if I sacrificed myself to them, then they wouldn't take him, manipulate him, kill him.  Bruce, I have to do this."

"Dick, please, I can't lose anybody else."

"I can't either, which is why I need to do this."

"Can you just allow me to say goodbye?"

"Yes."

Bruce hugged Dick to his chest,"I love you, my little Dickie bird."

Dick let a few tears fall for the nickname he hadn't heard for years,"I love you, too Dad."

"Jason?" Dick appeared at the door to his brothers room.

"What do you want Dick?"

"I'm leaving and I won't be back."

"Ever?"

"I...no." Dick wondered at what the Court of Owls would do to him.

"Court of Owls, is that where you're going?"

"Yes."

"Why?! Dick, they'll kill you!"

"Do you want Damian dead then?"

"What?"

"Here," Dick pulled out a ransom note and gave it to Jason,"Read this.  Then you will understand."

Bats,

We have decided, as the Court of Owls, on a very important decision.

To rid the city of you once and for all.

We already have a plan, and are willing to tell you it, so you see how serious we are.  And if you fail to please our request, then, well I think you can guess.

We will take your precious Robin from the safety of his nest and kill him, and after that, we will kill your Red Robin, and then your villainous Red Hood, and your Oracle, and blah blah blah, so on... till your nest is empty.
But there is one way that you can save your brood!  If you give us your Nightwing, then you will be safe and we will not bother you for a few years or so....

This is your last warning, no more play time, give us Nightwing or suffer the consequences!

The Court of Owls

"Now do you get it? Now do you get why I have to do this?" Dick asked.

"Dick.... no!" Jason flashed and threw the note down.

"It's the only way to save our family Jay!"

"But why you?" Jason screamed, shaking Dick's shoulders hard.

"I don't know!"  Dick cried.

"I hate it, you can't leave!" Jason screeched.

"I have to," Dick started crying and he sank to the floor,"I can't let them kill you or Timmy or Dami or Babs and you know..."

Jason's face softened at the sight of his broken older brother, and he leaned down and sat on the floor next to Dick, and surprising Dick, he threw his arms around his brother,"Just, don't die on the first day okay... oh I'm really bad at goodbye's."

Dick laughed and rubbed away his tears,"I love you Jay bird."

"Love you too, believe it or not, Dickie." Jason blushed.

"Hey Tim?" Dick asked.

"Yeah?" Tim hardly looked up from his book and Dick gulped, this was going to be hard.

"I'm not going to be back home for a while." Dick slightly lied.

"Oh... well I'll miss you, I wish you didn't have to go." Tim barely looked up.

"Oh.." Dick gulped away the hurt and Jason put his hand on Dick's shoulder, for comfort.

"I..." Tim looked up to see Dick looking down to the ground and Jason putting an arm on his shoulder,"What's wrong?"

"It's okay, I'll see you... sometime." Dick left and Jason grimaced.

"Hey Dami?" Dick flinched, knowing that Damian Wayne was the worst person to approach.

"Go away Grayson!  I don't care about whatever  you're going to say, just go away!"

"I... okay, bye Dami." Dick let a few tears slip and grabbed his bag, followed by Jason.

"Hey Dickie? Don't..." Jason hugged his brother,"Don't do anything stupid."

"I won't." Dick hugged Jason back.

"Love you."

"Back at you."

With that statement, Dick jumped out the door and left into the night.

"Where is Grayson going?" Damian asked, as he and Tim appeared at the door.

"The Court of Owls." Jason stated.

Damian gave him one look and rushed out the door,"GRAYSON!"

Dick listened to his name being shouted and wiped away his tears,"Bye boys."

"I'll never forget you."
