*Finlay's POV*Finally my holidays were over & a new page to my uneventful existence was about to begin. I was quite excited to start the next chapter in my life, which for any other new college student would be a worrying & tense time, but for me it was a breath of fresh air.
I finished the last of my packing & took a long hard look around the room I had called mine for most of my life. A knot had silently made its way into my stomach & a lump into my throat.
'Don't cry. You can do this. You can make it without being a total wimp,' I gave myself a pep talk.
I took a deep breath, gave a nod to nothing in particular & grabbed the box, heading out of the bedroom. I made it successfully out of my bedroom without shedding a tear, I made it to the lounge room also.
'Piece of cake. You so rock,' I congratulated myself.
My grandmother stood up to greet me, "I'm so proud of you Fin. I'm sure your parents would be too."
"Thanks grandma. I promise to call you when I get settled in my dorm," I smiled at the old woman.
"Oh before I forget," she toddled over to her handbag & took an envelope out, "I opened a bank account for you. Just a little something to help you get started. I know you'll get yourself a part time job shortly, this will tide you over until then."
"You didn't have to but thank you so much," my heart tightened as she handed the envelope over & pulled me in for a hug, which I had to adjust the box accordingly.
She unwrapped herself from me explaining that everything I needed has been delivered to the college & will be in my room for when I get there. We walked outside to the waiting taxi cab. The driver met us & collected my bags. I handed him the box as to give my grandmother one last hug.
"You'll be fine & so will I," she whispered in my ear, as to read my mind.
"I know. I'll call you every night & you call me if you need anything. I'm only going to be on the other side of town. It won't take me long to get here," I rambled, not wanting to let go.
She pushed me away gently, "go on Fin. You've worked so hard for this. It's time."
I got into the taxi & wound down the window, "I love you grandma."
"I love you too Fin. Stay safe," she kissed her palm then touched my face.
I waved goodbye as the taxi pulled away from the curb. I could feel the tears that had threatened for the past 5 minutes spill over, careening down my cheeks. I wiped them away quickly as I noticed the cab driver giving me a sympathetic smile in the mirror & handing over a unopened pack of tissues. I smiled thankfully & took them from him.
It was a quiet ride to my new residence. I knew this place like the back of my hand. This, the place I grew up & never really went anywhere, not even on holidays. I could see the college in the distance & butterflies made their way into my stomach.
'New beginnings,' I chanted over & over again inside my head.
The driver pulled up just in front of the dorm rooms, opening my door & started unpacking the trunk of his cab. I reached into my purse & pulled some money out.
"Your grandmother already paid sweetheart," the cabbie smiled, closing the trunk & getting back in.
'Thanks grandma, again,' a sad smile appeared on my face.
I picked up my baggage from the sidewalk & entered the main building. I finally found the reception area & booked myself in. They gave me a door key & number, sending me on my way. I struggled getting my bags & stuff up the stairs to the next level, but I was happy when I found my room. I knew that I was going to be sharing with another young woman who was also starting this year. I wrestled with the key in the door, while balancing everything, hoping not to drop it all. The door flew open & I picked the right hand side of the room. I dumped the lot onto my new bed & was happy to see my stuff already in the room, just as Grandma had said.
I stood there for a moment, mind-drafting where it all should go & then set off to work. After a good hour or so it looked perfect, well as perfect as it was going to get. Just as I began to put the last of my clothes away, the door swung open & a beautiful young woman entered the room, followed closely by a very geeky young man that was holding what I guessed were her belongings.
"Just put them on that bed thank you Clark," she smiled sweetly at him.
He did as she wished & then stood in front of her, "anything else you would like me to do miss?"
"No love. Now run along," she turned her back to him & looked at me, "you must be my new roomy Finlay."
Clark scampered away like a little puppy, shutting the door on the way out.
"Yes & you must be ......." I asked putting my clothes back down on the bed & extending my hand out to her.
"How rude of me. I'm Rebekah Mikaelson. Nice to meet you," she grinned & shook my hand.
*So what do you think of it so far? I really need your help people. I want to know if I'm doing a good job or not.
