* Andi’s POV *
It was Friday, and I woke up just before my alarm would sound off. It was my first day to go back to school after I became sick. Maybe I should have just agreed to go back on Monday. I was too lazy to move. I was still in bed and didn’t want to go. But I had to. I missed so much lessons and I can’t miss anymore classes. I finally got up and get ready for school.
Even though I was a bit lazy today, I got in time for school. There are still a few minutes to chill with friends and catch up. The hang out in the morning was a bit different. Just as I was heading into school, I saw some in different places. Sam, Julie, Dylan, Connor, and some other guys were hanging out by the tree, just near the school building. Kaity, Nathan, James, Daniel, Andrew, and Tyla were hanging out in our usual spot. Something’s wrong here, I thought. Why are there 2 groups now?
“Hey Andi, you finally showed up. How are you doing?” Kaity asked.
“I’m great! But I’m actually so used to being home.”
“Haha I bet! You’ve been out for almost the whole week!” Nathan replied.
They didn’t talk to me about what happened with the group. Things just carried on. Connor was in the other group. I noticed the way he looked at me but it was all awkward. I did understand that he just wants what’s best for his friends but I do have feelings too. I motioned everyone that I have to go to my locker and probably catch up on notes that I have missed while I was gone.
“I photocopied my notes for you, Andi.” Kaity said as she handed me an envelope.
“Thanks.” I replied as I checked each document in my hand and see how far I was behind.
I went inside the school building. It was like my first day in Penola. People were looking at me like I’m some new kid in school who doesn’t know where to go. People were busy talking with their friends and catching up with stories. I was walking along the hallway and heard some tingling sound. A girl’s keys fell on the floor and a guy took it and gave it to her. It reminded me of my lucky charm when I bumped into Luke and dropped it on the floor. But at that time, I didn’t notice I did drop it. I went back and looked forward and saw a vision of Luke in the hallway but it was all just a dream. He wasn’t there.
I headed to my locker and opened it up. It was full of pictures with me and Luke being happy. I grabbed my things and hurriedly closed my locker and went to the end of the hallway where Luke and I used to hang out and talk. When I got there, there was a couple talking, probably 10th graders. The girl was crying while the guy, probably her boyfriend or a close friend, was listening to her. It was the kind of what Luke does when I was new to Penola. We would have these kinds of conversations.
The bell rang and people went to their own respective rooms while I was taking my time off. I felt a bit dizzy. I kept on looking around and didn’t know that someone was running towards another direction and bumped me.
“I’m sorry.” I said.
“It’s okay, it’s my fault.” He said.
I helped him pick up his stuff. “Thanks.” He said and we both parted ways.
I didn’t get his name or which class he’s going to. I didn’t even remember his face just like the time I bumped into Luke. Everything that has been happening to me that morning reminded me of Luke. Everywhere I have gone to, Luke has always been on my mind. I know it’s just 2 months of us being together but it felt like a lifetime. It felt that I’ve lost everything and here I am, continuing on my life from the start.
I was late for gym class. We’re gonna have table tennis and I didn’t have a partner.
“I’ll be your partner.” A guy said. In my mind, I thought it was Luke but when I turned around it wasn’t. We were taking up tennis then and now it’s table tennis. Luke said the same thing when I didn’t have a partner.
