Chapter 42: That Trigger

* Luke’s POV *

The traumatizing thud of a bullet reverberated within the open area. It was as if there was a firework close by, but without the crackling sound. As I moved my eyes, I found the muffled sounds of my mum’s cry, cradling my twin brother in her hands. When I shifted my focus back to the gunman, the gun was now facing me as his face was painted with an evil grin.

“You’re next.” He mouthed and immediately, I heard that trigger clicked.

A painful cry echoed in my ears as I searched for it, I saw Andrea rushing over, distracting me from everything else. At that moment, she was the only one in my mind.

I’ll take a bullet for you any day.

Just a couple of minutes later, I found myself dropping to the ground as the guys ran for their lives, laughing viciously while at it.

My heart sounded like loud sirens, my back was hurting from that fall as I heard my mum asked if I was okay.  Searching my body for blood, I found my hands covered with it, all warm. Though what confused me was the fact that I wasn’t hurt.

I was safe.

As I finally got up, I saw Andrea lying on the ground on her stomach. A gush of warm blood flowed throughout her body as I moved her.

She saved my life.

“Andi…” I uttered, while trying my best to shake her body. “Andrea, wake up please.” I never expected this to happen. I was shocked. Mum was trying to wake Jai up. “Andrea, open your eyes.” I kept on repeating like I was a broken recorder. “Wake up please.” I chanted over and over again. I held her into my arms and cried.

The girl of my dreams is lying on my arms bleeding and unconscious.

Moving her next to Jai, I checked if both of them were still breathing. Thank God they were but I was so worried. Mum already called an ambulance and after a few minutes they came with the police.

I remember what the gunman looked like. I remember what all of them looked like. They were the same people that have beaten me up before when Andrea saved my life the first time.

And now, she saved me once again.

We went to the hospital and both of them were brought to the operating room to get the bullets out. Mum called Andrea’s parents and they came over as soon as they can. I was in the waiting room with everyone else. Some of Andi’s friends heard about it and came as well. Cathy was trying to comfort my mum and Richard was sitting on the floor waiting for results of what had happened to his only daughter.

I went over to Richard. I felt like the one being blamed for. “Sir, I’m sorry about Andi.” I apologized.

“No Luke, it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t know it was gonna happen.” He uttered.

“I feel like it was my fault. I’m so sorry for everything.”

“Luke, my daughter loves you so much and I’m glad you were a part of her life. Don’t blame yourself. If she hears you right now, I know she’s gonna tell you the same thing.” Richard said.

Even his dad tells me how much she loves me. I cried because after all these times, she still looks after me. She didn’t hesitate blocking her body to save me.

The doctor came out after the operation. First, she told us that both bullets were out of their system but they’re both still unconscious. Second, they have to stay here until they wake up. And third, they can’t be sure of how they both feel right now. We need to wait for them to wake up.
