Chapter 28: Flashback to the Truth

* Jai’s POV *

-Flashback-

Here I was sitting in the room thinking about things that happened in the past few days. I was supposed to be happy and preparing for things for Andi’s birthday tomorrow and yet I’m being emotional. I stopped for awhile and went out to cook some dinner. Luke was still in the lounge room with his laptop. He hasn’t moved since I came home earlier. I asked him if he ate but he didn’t say a thing. I cooked some chicken and vegetables for the two of us. When I was done, I separated it into 2 bowls and went to the lounge room.

“I made some dinner.” I said as I handed him the bowl. He didn’t take it and said he wasn’t hungry. “You have to eat.” He didn’t say a thing. He continued browsing the internet on his laptop.

“It’s Andrea’s birthday tomorrow. Are you coming?”

“What for?” He inquired.

“She wants to see you there.”

“I don’t know.”

“Come on, Luke.” I insisted.

“She doesn’t need me anymore. You’re there. I know you won’t stop caring for her. I hope you won’t hurt her like I did. I’ll never forgive myself.” He uttered. I was devastated. Once again, it was my choice to give up Andi. I was quiet for a long time while eating my dinner.

I texted Andrea that I was back from the ‘Janoskians meeting’ and asked her if she was doing anything. She said she was bored at home. It was too early, just around 630pm.

“Cool, I’m coming over now.” She replied.

Just after twenty minutes, I heard someone at the door. It was Andrea. “Good you guys are done! I was so bored.”

“Did you have dinner yet?”

“Yeah, I had some before coming here.” She went straight to the lounge room where Luke was staying at. She noticed the bowl of chicken and veggies that was sitting on top of the table. “Hey, you didn’t eat again?”

“I’m not hungry.” Luke replied, emotionless.

I was watching them the whole time, jealous and hurt because I could see how Luke’s mood shifted when she came over. I wanted to see everything because I was so confused of how I felt. They were perfect for each other. The girls that saw us in the mall were right. Mum was right.

Every time Andi looks at me, I tried to smile, only because I didn’t want her to feel bad that I was jealous while she was trying to tell Luke to eat his dinner. I saw her get close to Luke, probably sniffing him if he had any alcohol.

And I was right. “You drank beer again…” Andi said.

Luke didn’t say anything. Andi got up and went to the kitchen. She came back with a beer in hand.

“Hey, what are you doing?”

“I just wanted a drink.” She replied, casually.

“No!” I said and tried to stop her.

“But Luke doesn’t want to eat. I guess I’ll just drink this…” She explained.

“I’ll drink with you then.” I said, but Luke already taken the bowl from the table.

“Fine…” He uttered as he retrieved his bowl of dinner from the table and ate it. “Happy?” Andi nodded and smiled genuinely for him.
