Chapter 39: The Last Straw

* Andrea’s POV *

“Where’s Luke?” Gina comes at the hospital so frightened. She came with Jai and Beau as soon as I called her that I took Luke to the hospital. “What happened?”

“I saw him getting ganged up by some boys. Someone saw him and called the cops. The guys were arrested. I saw him in time where the cops had arrived.” I explained. “They’re looking at him now… Cleaning his bruises.”

“Thank you for taking care of him despite what happened between you two.” Gina said.

“Always, Gina.”

“Andrea… Are you okay?” My mum came too, with Jake.

“Yes, mum. I’m fine.” My shirt was covered in Luke’s blood, but I was fine, not hurt or anything.

“How’s Luke?” My mum asked.

“They’re treating his bruises.” I uttered again.

My mum saw Gina and they both talked while waiting for Luke to get done. I saw Jake looking sternly at Jai while Beau was trying to ease up the situation.

I went to where they are and stood right in the middle. Jake left to sit down while Jai looked so upset.

“Hey Jai, thanks for this morning.” I uttered.

“Always.” Was he mocking me? I tried to ignore it but the tone of his voice and how he said it had some hidden meaning in it, or I’m just assuming.

“I’m sorry for everything.” I told him and he said it again, “Always”.

“Why do you keep saying always?”

“Nothing…”

“Is something wrong?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Luke came out after a few minutes. Gina and Beau went to him and asked if he was okay.

“Well, Beau and the other guys will take you home. Cathy and I are going somewhere.” Gina said.

I was fine with that. I wanted to make sure the guys get home safe. Gina and mum left. Jake was dragging me home but I told him I wanted to come home with the guys.

“Fine then, I’m going home.” Jake said.

“We can drop you home.” Beau offered but Jake declined and left.

“I’m sorry about that.”

We went to the parking lot and Luke took the passenger seat. He was different again when he came out. I’m hoping that he just was tired or something. The drive home was so quiet. No one wanted to talk, even Beau wasn’t playful like he used to. Jai was a bit quiet too. I felt really uncomfortable. I thought maybe I should have gone home instead.

We got to the house and Luke went immediately inside. Jai followed suit while I was following him behind.

“Hey Andi.” Beau called.

“Yeah…” I sighed.

“Just wanted to let you know, Jake talked to Jai to leave you alone. Maybe that’s why Jai’s discombobulated.” He whispered.

He went inside and trailed behind. Luke was already in their room while Jai was at the lounge room hanging out. No one wanted to talk to me. I went to Luke to check if he was okay. He was sitting on the bed leaning on the wall and trying to feel his arms.

“Hey, are you feeling better?” I asked. He didn’t answer. Maybe he was thinking, isn’t it obvious? “Do you need anything?” I asked. Again, he didn’t respond like I was invisible and ruining his life.

“Thank you, Andrea. But just because you saved me earlier, doesn’t mean we’re gonna get back to being our normal selves. It doesn’t mean we’re back together.” He explained.

“I’m sorry.” I uttered.

“Are we friends?”

“Not right now.” He uttered.

“Why not?” He didn’t answer and ignored me yet again. “Are you doing this because of Jai?” Still no answer.

“I’m sorry for everything. I hope you’ll forgive me someday but I guess not. I’m sorry for making you upset. I’m sorry if I’m not good enough for your love. I’m sorry for hurting you. I’m sorry for being here. I’m sorry for pushing myself into you because I love you and I wanted to know you’re gonna be safe. I’m sorry if until now you’re the one I love. I’m sorry if I can’t forget about you because it’s not easy. I tried but I can’t. I’m sorry for pushing Jai away. I’m sorry if I still care about you. I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to hurt you. I’m sorry Luke, I’m sorry. I get it. You don’t want me here. You don’t want to ever see me again. I get it. I promise after this I will avoid you and your friends. I promise that you won’t have any problems with me anymore. I hope you would stay safe and I hope you will never leave your house alone because I don’t want to see you get hurt. It hurts me a lot you have no idea. But most of all I’m sorry for ruining your life. Maybe you regret that you met me or something. Just so you know, I’ll never regret meeting and loving you.” I expressed and left the room.

My happy composure suddenly faded away. So they got home safely, that’s what I wanted to know. That’s why I came with them but I think I’m not welcome anymore. I was controlling my tears not to fall when I walked outside of the room.

I wasn’t looking straight in their eyes when I said, “I’m gonna go now”. 

But Jai came and lifted up my chin. “Did he make you cry?”

“No, I’m just tired I guess.” I uttered. “I’m really sorry to you guys. I’m sorry Jai.”

“I’ll bring you home.” Jai offered.

“No, I don’t want it to happen to you too. I’ll be fine.”
