She was standing at the corner of the club, some guy talking her up.
He was staring, hoping his stare would burn right through that man.
It had only been 4 months since the breakup. Had she really moved on that fast?
A sip of his beer, two sips, one gulp. The burning sensation of that cold liquid running down his throat felt relieving.
He wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, quick to order his fifth beer this night.
He watched her every move. The way she smiled shyly, the way she shifted from foot to foot, and especially the way she nibbled on her bottom lip- a habit of hers when she was nervous.
The man seemed to have motioned towards the dance floor, probably asking for the opportunity to grind up against her and place his filthy hands where his should be.
Niall turned back towards the bar and this time ordered a shot of tequila.
He knew she would be here, and maybe that was one of the reasons he came. In hope that he would see her after four months. Four awful months of not being able to call her his.
The man had his chest pressed against her back as she swayed her hips to the rhythm. She could maybe fool the jerk but not Niall. He knew that behind that tipsy grin she held some sort of regret. Regret of what, now that was unknown but he knew her. He knew something was just not right.
The man moved his dirty hands all around her body, making her jolt away.
Her features stiffened as she said something and suddenly walked away.
Niall stood up from his stool, pushing through the crowd trying to get to her before she left. He took a grip on her wrist, making her spin around.
"Niall." She looked up at him shocked
"How are you?" The dreaded question. What was she supposed to say? That she was amazing? Well that wasn't going to happen because in reality she was miserable. Missing the long and sweet nights with the dorky blonde.
"Fine. You?" What she didn't know was that he felt worse. He was trying to drown the pain away with alcohol. It let him forget about everything, about her, even if it was just for a couple hours.
"Great." He spoke through gritted teeth, "You want to get a drink?"
She smiled at the offer but declined, making up some excuse about it being too late.
"Oh. Well at least let me share a cab with you. That way we can catch up." Nervousness clear in his tone. He wanted her to agree so badly.
"I guess that would be okay."
He opened the door for her as she smiled shyly, hopping into the back seat. Him following quickly.
"So, you came alone?" He asked, the curiosity to know her answer taking over.
"Yeah. Everyone was busy so I came to have a couple drinks alone." She chuckled, mostly at how pathetic she sounded
"What a coincidence. That's exactly why I was here." A smile appearing on her face, happy to know that she wasn't the only one.
The cab came to halt, the taxi driver signaling that they had arrived at her flat.
She began looking through her purse for some spare change, "Don't worry about it. I'll pay." Niall spoke
"Really? Thanks. Well, I'll see you around." She opened the door, ready to leave but stopped and turned to the slightly drunk Irish lad.
"You want to come in?" She asked
"Uhm. Yeah sure." He was surprised at her offer but would never decline because that was exactly what he hoped for.
"Sorry for the mess." She apologized as they stepped into the familiar apartment. "Feel free to take a seat, I'll be back."
He smiled as he looked over at the couch. It was the same black leather couch that held many memories. Painful, loving, sweet memories.
"You want anything to drink?" She yelled from the kitchen.
"A water please." He yelled back
She stepped back into the living room with two bottles of water and a bowl of popcorn, knowing they were his favorite.
"You remembered." He smiled, bright eyes meeting hers
"I don't think I could forget. We ate them at least twice a week." They both broke into a fit of giggles
As their laughter died down, their eyes met once again.
He leaned in, bringing his hands to cup her jaw, connecting his lips with hers. It started off slow but it wasn't long until the pace picked up.
Her lips attacked his, falling under his intoxicating spell. His tongue swiped her bottom lip, begging for entrance. She decided to tease him and deny it pulling away for a deep breath.
"Niall." Low pants leaving her mouth, "What are we doing?"
"I have no idea, but don't stop." A smirk plastered on his face, he gripped onto her waist, causing her to be placed into a straddling position over his lap.
He took the opportunity to explore her mouth with his tongue. The slight taste of alcohol turning him on.
He took a hold of her and took her to the bedroom. Laying her gently against the mattress. She placed her fingers on the end of his shirt, lifting it slowly.
He pulled away from the heated make out session, his face in the crook of her neck.
"Are you sure about this?" He whispered.
No matter how badly he wanted her, he needed to make sure she was 100 percent set on what he wanted so badly to happen.
She smiled. Lifting his chin, so he could look into her eyes. "I've never been more sure about anything in my life."
His heart fluttered and his stomach seemed to let loose a million butterflies.
"I love you." He said, quickly regretting it.
Her body became stiff, as she processed the three words she had been dying to hear all night.
She leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his slight frown.
"I love you."
The ends of his lips rose and the ends of his eyes wrinkled, joy taking over his adorable features.
He bent down, reattaching their lips. That night they proved their lasting love. Maybe they were meant for each other after all.
