My mom had soon returned to my room and nailed my window shut; then she left, locking it from the outside. I had sat on my bed for hours, crying into a pillow; then I tried to sleep but couldn’t.
Finally Peter came in with a bowl of soup and a glass of water. “Hey sis,” he said as he set them on my desk.
“I’m not your sister,” I groaned, falling back onto the pillows.
“I know…I heard…But I don’t wanna call you step-sister…” he commented as he sat on the end of my bed.
“Yea, it is weird,” I sighed as I propped up on one elbow.
“If you want me to, I will contact Mingan for you,” he whispered, holding out a notepad and pen.
I quickly scribbled an explanation and handed it back before my step-mom yelled, “Pete! Come down please!”
“Bye sis,” he said, stuffing the notepad back into his pocket. He left the soup on the desk and exited, locking the door behind him.
