9.13.2084 Wednesday Noon

I sat under the branches under a pine, outside the high-school. I slowly nibbled a ham sandwich, while flipping through a book for homework. I glanced up as the branches moved and saw Mingan, pushing his way. "Hi," I said nervously, setting my sandwich aside.

"Hi…Can I sit here?" he muttered as he kept his gray eyes trained on me.

"Sure," I cheered as I scooted over a little, making more room.

He seated himself on my left and pulled out a plastic-wrapped sandwich from his pocket. He carefully unwrapped it, glancing at mine for a second. "What you got? I brought turkey and swiss," he asked as he held it up for me to see.

"Ham and cheddar," I answered calmly, looking away. My stomach was doing flips and I knew there would be no eating for me. "So why did you decide to sit here today?" I questioned, glancing back to catch a glimpse of his silver bangs over his eyes.

"To relax, I guess…plus, I heard this is where the prettiest girl in school hangs," he told with a smile before biting into his sandwich.

"You think I’m pretty?" I gasped as I stared at him, open-mouthed. ‘He thinks I’m the prettiest girl!’ I thought excitedly, ‘Mone is going to have a cow when she finds out!’

"Of course," he replied as he held my gaze and this time I didn’t turn away, but I felt my cheeks turn hot as his fingers ran through my red hair. "Katherine…"

"Yes?" I mumbled in a daze.

"Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?" he inquired as his hand landed on top of mine.

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" I cried desperately as my blue eyes sparkled.

"It’s a date then," he laughed as he leaned in; then the bell rang. He glanced away before telling, "I’ll pick you up at seven…um…wear something nice…" His eyes caught mine once more, then he rushed away.
