Riley's Pov.

My name's Riley. I've just moved from Los Angeles to a little town in New York called Greenwich Village. I'm going into John Adams high school. And to be honest I'm not excited. I've never spent more than 2 years at the same school.  Never spent long enough somewhere to make forever friends. My foster family move a lot for work. I never get to know someone long enough to tell them my story. I have a little joy in my heart knowing I'm going to get to go to John Adams high school because that's where my late parents went to school so I feel like I'll be connected to them in some way.

Lucas Pov.

Mrs. Friar: Lucas the new family is moving in next door.

Lucas: Cool, tell me when I care.

Mrs. Friar: They have a daughter around your age. Why don't you help her set up her room?

Lucas: Do I have to?

Mrs. Friar: Yes now go!

As I go out the door of my house I walk across my lawn over to the delivery truck were the girl with the long brown hair was standing.

Lucas: You know I can drive one on these.

I saw her jump out of her skin, she basically fell into the box she was rummaging through.

Riley: Is that the way you greet your new neighbors around hear?

Lucas: Only the cute ones babe. What's your name?

Riley: it's Riley. So you can stop calling me babe.

Lucas: geez sorry, oh and the names Lucas, thanks for asking.

Riley: Well Lucas, why are you out here?

Lucas: Well my momma sent me out here to help you unpack and stuff.

Riley: momma?  We're you from?

Lucas: Texas. We're you from?

Riley: LA, anyway if you're here to help you can help me move my piano up into my room.

Lucas: Erm sure.

After about 20 minutes and a lot of breaks we finally got that stupid piano into her room. When my momma told me help I didn't know I would be doing this.

Riley: thanks for that.

Lucas: I think that after that I should hear you play.

Riley: really?

Lucas: Yeah go on. I'm intrigued.

I saw Riley go over sitting at the piano before placing her hands on her keys.

Riley: Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need

I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

I just stood there gobsmacked. I didn't expect her to be able to sing too. She was amazing. No Lucas snap out of it your a player.

Riley: sorry was I bad? It's been a while.

Lucas: No no. The complete opposite. You were really good. Anyways I should be going. See you around.

Riley: Yeah see you around.

Riley's Pov.

I walked Lucas to the door saying bye before a small smile appeared on my face. Did he really think my singing was good? No Riley you can't fall for someone! He can't find out.

Later that night I was hanging some blinds in my bay window before looking out onto the street. There was not much traffic. No loud taxi drivers shouting and honking their horns. I looked over at my piano in the corner I walked over opening it up placing my hands on the keys.

Riley: There was a time
I used to look into my father's eyes.
In a happy home
I was a king, I had a golden throne.
Those days are gone,
Now the memory's on the wall.
I hear the songs
From the places where I was born.

Upon a hill across a blue lake,
That's where I had my first heartbreak.
I still remember how it all changed.

My father said,
"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!

"Don't you worry, don't you worry, child.
See heaven's got a plan for you.
Don't you worry, don't you worry now."
Yeah!

I looked around the room before hearing someone clapping I looked out my window to see Lucas clapping out side his.

Riley: how long have you been there?

Lucas: long enough to know you have a real talent.

Riley: Thanks.

Lucas: so I guess we're window neighbors then.

Riley: I guess we are.

Lucas: hey I never asked earlier but what school you going to?

Riley: John Adams.

Lucas: I'll see you around then.

Riley: Yh I guess you will.

After our mini conversation I closed my blinds before changing into a pair of short and a tank top looking in the mirror feeling my scars with my fingers. No one must find out I say to myself before climbing into bed and turning off my light.
