Chapter 2- Overcoming Your Past

Scripture Text; Philippians 3:13- "brethren I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before."

Of course all of us have done something or been through something in the past which, we wish we could reverse, hence we have troubles overcoming or forgetting about it. it is not easy to forget, but gradually we will get over it if we acknowledge God's help, pray and go with the flow. Back in 2009 one week after my baptism, I found myself among a group of girls whose behavior I knew was inappropriate. they influenced me to do something I knew was unacceptable; however, I gave in and this resulted in a shadow being cast on my reputation. I wish I could do over that day and do the right thing. However, life is not like that. life is like a storm with two characters- a sponge and a duck and it's your choice to decide which one you will be. In a storm the sponge absorbs all the water and this will cause the sponge to move extremely slow through the storm. In a storm, when water covers or come in contact with the duck, it immediately runs off. When we apply this to reality, we come to the understanding that when we are sponges, it makes it harder for us to move on and we miss opportunities to have fun and enjoy life, but the duck knows when to let go and keep moving forward. In life, we should all try to be the duck.

let us be like the duck in the storm. How can we be sure that we have forgiven and moved on from our past? well when we remember those bad memories and there is a feeling of peace and ease then we have moved on. However, when we feel hatred, guilt, regret, anger, and anguish then we have not yet let our past go and moved on. when we bound up things like this in our heart it can affect your relationship with God. BE AN OVERCOMER OF YOUR OWN PAST!!
