Searching for A Friend

"Who's your true friend?" I ask.

"No one yet," he says. "They're hard to find."

I wanted to scream that I could be your friend,

That I would be there when you needed someone to talk to,

That I would comfort you when there was no one else,

That I would be trustworthy and loyal until you hurt me first.

But you are right: true friends are hard to find.

I haven't gotten one I could count on.

Who would be there until I really needed them?

Who would be there when I needed a shoulder to cry on?

Who would be to my rescue when I am hurt?

Who would comfort me in my miserable times?

Who would always tell me the truth even if it meant hurting me?

Not until I had a chance like this.

But you know I like you, so you will feel awkward around me.

Somewhere, my true friend is out there waiting for me.

I just have to keep looking.
