Fred's POV
"Again, I'm really sorry, Payton," I mumbled. It was Saturday morning. George and I decided to visit Payton again in the Hospital Wing since it was kind of our fault she was in that place.
"You've already apologized about fifty-seven times," she said, grinning. "I'm fine. It was my own fault that I agreed to help you two!"
The three of us laughed.
"So," said George, a look of anticipation on his face, "When are you getting out of this place?"
"This afternoon," she replied. George's face lit up. I raised an eyebrow over at him, but he didn't catch it.
"Great! We need you to test some more products," George said to Payton sarcastically. He got a nice punch in the arm.
"Come on, George, I'm not that stupid," she said through her laughter.
"I know you aren't," said George in all seriousness. I let out something between a snort and a laugh. Oh, George, you're blowing it.
It's no secret, well at least not to me, that George has something going on with Payton. It's quite funny, actually. I don't know if she feels the same way about him, though. I'm not going to ask her, either. That's his problem, not mine.
I've already got myself a girl.
Maci.
I love her name. I love the way it feels when I wrap my arms around her. I love her laugh and her smile. I love the way her eyes light up when they meet mine. I love everything about her. But I'm not sure if I love her.
"Earth to Fred?" yelled George from across Payton's bed.
"Er, sorry," I replied, gathering my thoughts and sitting up a bit straighter.
"As I was saying," said George, eyeing me funnily, "we should probably get going."
"Yeah we're s'posed to be getting a small shipment in of some-" I lowered my voice "-stuff."
Payton laughed. "Alright, well don't use your 'stuff' on anyone but yourselves, okay?"
"No promises," I shrugged.
"See you later, Payton!" called George as we headed out of the hospital wing.
"I'm an idiot," moaned George when we were well away from the Hospital Wing.
"Well, I can't argue with that," I teased.
"I'm serious, Fred," said George through gritted teeth. I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Wait-" I whispered. George turned around and looked at me expectantly. "You're serious, Georgie?"
He nodded and sighed. I tried to hold back my laughter and be a good brother.
"Go for it," I whispered simply. I continued walking, leaving my dumbstruck twin behind me.
I walked some distance before realizing that George had not followed me. I turned around to look back, but he was gone.
"Good for you, brother," I muttered to myself. I sat down right there, in the middle of the corridor. I should probably have been getting back to the common room, but I just felt like sitting there. I smiled and closed my eyes. It was kind of nice. Just alone in the quiet.
I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder. I smiled, knowing who it was. I didn't open my eyes.
"Hey," she whispered softly.
