"What?!"
Colin sighed.
"I don't have time for this as Chief Detective." He muttered to himself as he strode into the main room of the Station.
I stormed after him.
"Why can't I help?" I called.
As I sped through the door to the main room, I was greeted suddenly with the sight of all the seniors officers.
I choked on air, gasping furiously.
The chief of police smiled at me.
"Hello Cassie." Before I could reply, he held up a finger for silence.
The room fell silent.
I tried pleading with my eyes to the Chief, Andrew Hayes, but he avoided my gaze.
"Silence everyone. Cassie wants to talk." Andrew said, winking at me.
"Why can't I help investigate the crime scene?"
I flinched, noticing Colin raise an eyebrow at the whiny tone of my voice.
Andrew sighed.
"Cassie, listen to yourself. You are certainly smart enough to help with this investigation, but you're still only 15 and an apprentice."
"But I can help! Nobody would suspect a 15 year old!!"
Several officers chuckled, but Andrew remained frowning.
He sighed, and rubbed his face.
"Cassie, I need to talk to you in my office." He glanced at the other officers and added: "Alone."
I followed him into his office and sat down on a hard leather arm chair.
He leaned towards me over the desk.
"Cassie. You're like a daughter to me, and I trust you more than any of these officers. But I can't let you investigate a serious crime."
"Why?" I asked, trying to keep the whiny tone out of my voice.
"Because I care for you, and I don't want to see you hurt."

"Huh?" I asked, dumbstruck.
Andrew ran his hand through his hair.
"I think you should return home. Cathy will be worried."
"Huh?" I repeated.
Andrew sighed.
"Cassie, time to go. Your mum will be waiting."
He clicked his huge fingers in front of my face.
I jerked in my seat.
"Uh...Yeah..See ya." I mumbled grumpily as Andrew shooed me out of his office.
"Go home, sleep, text your friends, do whatever a normal anti-social teen does."
"Whatever." I mumbled.
He winked at me. "You'll fit the part nicely."
Still acting like a typical teenager, I stormed out of the room whilst muttering inaudibly.
