"No," I said stiffly. "That is not me."

His dark green eyes stared me down and I fought the urge to flinch. "Are u sure, kid?"

I shook my head. "Must be my doppelgänger!" I said jokingly.

Tua did not smile.

After awkwardly grabbing my energy drink and a free chocolate, I slunk out of the Dairy, not trying to trick myself into believing that I was not bothered by the fact I was officially now on the run.

After 10 minutes of trying to jog un-noticed through suburbia, I decided to try head for the Centre City, where I figured it would be easier to blend in.

Rather than in suburbia where neighbours are nosy and gossip is passed 'round quicker than you can say: "Damn you small town gossip!!"

On the road to City Centre I was deep in thought. I considered my options:

Well I can't return home... I thought.

My mind sprang to thoughts of Mum and Holly sobbing on our couch....

I shook my head. I'm sure they're doing fine without me! I told myself firmly.

I stared at my shoes as I walked, determined to make the specks of doubt disappear from my mind.

I gasped as an idea came to my mind.

Why don't I catch the Black Shadow? That will show Colin and everyone else that I'm not just a helpless kid!

I started running faster, my mind set to arrive in the City Centre before dark.

A drop of rain lands on my nose.I curse.

After about 15 minutes I reach the start of the busy shopping streets.*

I trudge past dark shops, the rain falling heavier now.

A group of people are crowded in front of an electronics store, eyes fixed on the T.Vs in front of them. They block my path.

They don't all notice me as I push past, but one man pulls me in and says; "Look, kid."

I peer at the T.V, which is on a news channel. A grim reporter says;

"Suburban Auckland is in shock after a local dairy owner was murdered almost 1/2 an hour ago.

Mr Tua West was found by his wife, Tara West, out in front of their dairy, the Tuatara Dairy, with a knife through his back. Police do not know who ended Mr West's life, but they are scouring the dairy's video footage from the surveillance cameras in an effort to find out."

The news turned to the weather, and the group of people dissipated. I was fixed to the concrete in shock.

The last person to help me, I thought, was murdered not long after I left.

I was stunned and my brain didn't seem to be working properly.

When I finally came to a conclusion, it wasn't good news.

The Black Shadow murdered all those people, and he's following me.
