I made my way towards the prison but before I made it there, I was stopped by my ex, Isabelle. Gosh their names were horribly alike. I groaned and turned around to look at her face that was caked with makeup.
"Isabelle. Not now." I sighed.
"Honey, what is going on? I've not seen you in ages. You've been so distant since you went to visit that pack." She sighed. "Please just tell me what I did to make you so distant and I'll fix it"
"Isabelle you can't fix this and anyway it isn't you." I sat her down, deciding that I should let her down gently. She may dress up, questionably, but she was a lovely person and she did mean a lot to me.
"I found my mate, Issy" I sighed, this must hurt. I proposed her to be my Luna and now I'm having to tell her she won't fulfil that position. "I know I should've told you. I really should've and I'm sorry. But she was attacked by those hunters and so was Kyle. I've had a lot going on and I'm really sorry about all of this"
She suddenly burst out crying. "I'm your mate and you are leaving me for another woman? You're sick Casey. I thought you loved me!"
Oh brilliant. I thought, sarcastically.
"I'm sorry. I thought I did and I never expected to find my mate. We're over Isabelle. I'm sorry" with that, I walked away leaving her sobbing on the bench. I felt awful and I wanted to comfort her but I knew I couldn't. I wish I waited two more years now. Seeing Issy like that genuinely hurt. She wasn't my mate but I did think I loved her. It was like the human side of me fell for her and I knew it was wrong, my wolf constantly reminded me of that. I sighed. This was such a mess.
I went into the prison, straight to the hunters cell and grabbed him, pinning him against the wall with a silver knife pressed against his throat.
"You are going to tell me everything you know or I am going to snap your head straight off of your scrawny little body and feed you to the pups" I growled, adding pressure to make my threat more effective. He scoffed, well he tried to and rolled his eyes.I shrugged. I guess he needed a little more encouragement. I sliced his arm with the knife in one swift motion and tightened my hand around his throat even more. His face contorted with pain and he tried to scream but the sound didn't pass his chapped lips.
Finally, he coughed and struggled before nodding. I dropped him to the floor and pulled up a chair. I sat down in front of him and waited for him to talk.
"I don't know much as our leader never tells us the entire plan, but I do know that the girls old pack sent us. The new alpha of the pack had something against her and wanted her to finish his plans. That's all I know. I swear it."
I felt bad for the boy. He was only 16 and was probably being forced to do something by his family that he didn't want to do. However he was a threat to my pack and my mate so I couldn't risk freeing him. Not yet at least.
I nodded, satisfied with my answers and headed towards the exit.
"Okay. One more question" I turned around to face him before I left. "Who is making you do this?"
"My dad. I never wanted to hurt anyone. I haven't hurt anyone. That's why I always remained in the bushes out of the way so I was safe and didn't have to shoot anyone" He explained, his head lowered in guilt. I could tell he was telling the truth.
I nodded and tossed him a bottle of water and a granola bar. Like I said to Belle. I didn't kill innocent people.
The boy reminded me of myself. I never asked to be an alpha and I never did want to be one but when my parents died Nick was studying to become a doctor and wanted me to take the alpha position so I had no choice. Things that I have done always stay with me. Things I never wanted to do. The kid reminded me of myself when I was sixteen.
I walked into the hospital ward that Annabelle and Kyle were. Annabelle was fast asleep. I smiled in greeting to Kyle who grinned back at me and I sat in the chair beside Annabelle as quietly as I could. She didn't even stir and I smiled, she looked so peaceful.
I sat beside her on my laptop for a few hours until the machine that was measuring her heart rate and a few other vital things started beeping quicker than before and she started whimpering. I instantly stood up and started shaking her softly. "Belle" she was clearly in a deep but uncomfortable sleep. She didn't respond and I called out to her a few more times until she finally shot up in her bed, wide awake.
"Hey it's okay it was just a dream" I whispered softly and pulled her into a hug. She slowly relaxed, with a sigh.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked her.
She shook her head. "No. I'd rather not."
"Okay" I thought about whether i should wait to tell her about the current situation or not. I weighed my options and decided it was best to leave it for a little bit.
"Did you hear anything about the attack?" Dammit Annabelle why did you have to ask?
"Nothing for you to worry about" I smiled.
She shook her head slightly and rolled her eyes. " Why did they attack Casey?"
"Annabelle you're not-" she cut me off.
"Don't tell me what I'm ready to hear Casey. I need to know, especially if you are trying to keep it away from me"
"Callum is the alpha now and he sent the hunters." I sighed, after a slight hesitation.
"WHAT?!"
