~~ Sophia's POV ~~
"So that's it?" I ask my dad as he nods, "I guess I'll choose option b."
"You sure?" He knows I'm sure.
I nod, "We all know it's the best option."
I look at him, his eyes tell a story of a man who had to take such a huge responsibility on such a short notice, a man who didn't ask for this life. He was never ready to be a father and I know this.
"Okay, I'll let Jaime know so he can let Jessica know." He begins to walk away but he quickly stops as his head slightly turns he was not making eye contact with me but with the ground, "I'll always be proud of you I hope you know that."
Words that should bring joy only brought me complete sadness, I wanted to yell and scream, "I know," I say quietly as he nods slightly and keeps walking, "I know I'm a complete failure." I whisper to myself when he finally is out of sight.
Life is full of regrets, I know because my life is the big regret.
I grabbed my bags and began to pack, why couldn't I be blessed with a mind that was smart enough to understand the simplest equation? Why do I always get distracted by the simplest things in my life?
~ A Few Days Later ~
"You know I never wanted it to come to this But I did warn you many times about how your grades had to come first," I listened well, I looked at my father's mouth as he spoke.
I sighed to myself and looked at the people as they rushed to get to the gates on time, as some laughed with a coffee on hand, and others cried as they hugged loved ones goodbye. I listened to the distant sound of a screeching as it got louder and louder I began to realize the sound was in my head, the sound made it feel like my head was going to burst.
I close my eyes, "I know you hate to hear me ramble on but you have to listen, Sophia." I hear dad say to me.
I sigh to myself, I'm Still here for you, I heard someone whisper, I quickly open my eyes to see my dad staring at me, "What did you say?" I ask
"I said you should get going you don't want to be late."
I nod as my dad hugged me, I held onto his hand as we smiled one last time, "I love you, sweetie."
"I love you too," I said with a fake smile.
"Oh!" He began to search for something in his pocket when I noticed lines of dry blood on his wrist, my heart began to beat faster, "Here." He hands me a twenty dollar bill, "I put more in your bank account I want you to not waste it all, only use it if necessary."
"Okay." I wanted to ask about the scars but I had no time, I hugged him one last time and walked away. I felt everything. Why would he do that to himself? It's probably the same question he asked himself when he found out about my own self-harming. I shake the thoughts away as I arrive at my gate.
~~ Two Months Later ~~
All is going well here back at Jessica's, I haven't spoken to my father in a couple of weeks but I was due to speak to him sometime soon.
"Sweetie, are you going to eat?" Jessica asks as she knocked on my door.
"Yeah, I'll be right down." I close my laptop and put on my shoes. Maybe he'll skype me today, I just want to know he is doing okay. That he is happy.
I sit down at the dinner table where Jessica has placed the take-out food, "Tai food, Yum," I say as I grab a plate and begin to serve myself.
"Have you talked to your father lately?" Jessica asks as she places her plate on the table.
"Nope, why?"
"Hmm, that's interesting." She says as she takes a bite of her food
"What's interesting?" I ask as I sit down.
"I just thought that since-Nevermind I shouldn't have said anything." She smiles.
"Jessica, tell me," I say as I take her plate away.
She sighs, "It's nothing I should've just kept my mouth shut, now give me my food!" She laughs but I wasn't laughing.
"It didn't sound like nothing, now tell me or I will throw this good food away in the trash can." I threatened but slightly joked.
She sighs, "I just thought that since," She stayed silent for a second, "since he is now in a relationship he would at least call you and let you know."
"Wait, what?" She takes her plate from my hands, "Since when? With who?"
She shakes her head, "He should be the one to tell you."
"Well he hasn't yet and you basically did so go ahead and spill the beans!" I say to her as she swallows another bite of her food.
"They started talking a couple days after you left."
"A couple of days?!"
She nods, "They started dating for few weeks after that and just this month they've been calling each other boyfriend-girlfriend. I'm sorry he didn't tell you, he should have, I mean he said he was going to. I'm sorry, hon."
"Unbelievable," I say as I push my plate away. I had suddenly lost all of my appetites.
"Don't let this ruin your appetite-"
"Is she pretty?" I ask as I look at Jessica, "How old is she? What's her name?"
"Her name is Danielle Victoria, She's 23... she's a model and she was an actress in one of your dad's music videos."
"So they've met before." I can't believe this. He gives me the option to go home and I do because well, my grades were bad but then he forgets about me once this girl comes into his life?
"Yes, you need to talk to him about this, he can tell you more about her-"
"Psh. I doubt she even knows I exist," I say as I shake my head.
"That's not true."
"Do you have proof?" Jessica stays silent, "I'm not hungry anymore so I'm just gonna go for a walk." I smile weakly as I get up and place my plate in the sink and walk out the front door. It's just... unbelievable.
