*I don't know how much time has passed; a long while*
It's been a long time since I'd talked to either Sam or Dean. We kept in touch, but they've stopped pick up my calls, either of them. I don't know what's different, but this morning, as I was getting out of the shower and inspecting the old scar on my side, I got a call. Sam. I gave up on calling a long time ago. What's different now?
"Hello?" I answered.
"Kay?" He sounded bad.
"Yeah, hey Sam. Is everything okay?" My voice littered with concern.
"No." Well that's harsh, "You still in Arizona?"
"Yeah, same place." I said, worry more fluent now.
"Okay. I'm on my way. I'll be there tomorrow."
"Okay, Sam. But what's-" He hung up. Wow, thanks.
But he lied. He showed up late that night, at around 2 am, while I was binge watching Batman movies. "Hey, Sam." I said as I opened the door, "Get in here." I noted that Dean wasn't here, but there sat the Impala.
He stepped in and once I'd closed the door, I was covered in Sam. He was hugging me and his mass basically covered me entirely, "Kay. I missed you."
I pushed him back, "But not enough to call. I did try."
He left me and went straight to the fridge, "I know," he pulled out a beer and chugged it.
"What's up?" He didn't drink like that before.
"Kay." He was out of breath and set the empty bottle on the counter.
I moved over to the opposite of the counter from him, "Tell me." I said it in a very serious tone.
He looked me straight in the eye for a second then looked at his hands, "Deans' dead." He was hurting, I could see it now.
Don't get me wrong, he had all the right. I was more shocked than anything, "How long?"
"4 months."
.... What? "4 months? And you didn't think to tell me? Anything? You know how long I've been out of the loop? Over a year, Sam." The sudden change from worry to anger seemed to surprise the bearer of bad news.
"Look, I can explain." He was getting defensive but that just drove me further.
He back up and I walked up to him and put my face in his, "Explain."
"I was busy."
"With what!" Oh, the venom.
"Trying to find a way to get him back." He said innocently.
"And?"
"And? There's nothing else."
"And you didn't invite me?" I asked, now a bit hurt.
"Kay, I didn't think about it. A lot's happened since we left you here."
"Obviously!" I shouted and left to sit on the couch. I was crying angry tears, and he would see no matter what. "How?"
He came and sat by me, "Hell hounds."
"Why?" I didn't want to talk anymore.
"Because I died and he made a deal to bring me back." He said it quickly but I caught every word.
"Oh, so you were dead too? Wow, okay." I said, sarcasm dripping from my words.
"Yes."
I took a deep breath and caught up with my emotions, "What do you need from me, Sam?"
"I need help. I've been working a case up in Illinois."
"Okay. How do I fit in?" I was in. I've decided it and was now dead-set in helping Sam with whatever. I can't sit on the bench any longer anyway.
"It's demons. So just cover my back." He sounded so sweet compared to the man from a minute ago telling me Dean was dead.
"Okay, let me pack my things." I tapped his shoulder and went up stairs to pack my bag.

Sam booked a room and I waited in the car. I felt half dead with tired, but I couldn't sleep, which was very off because I've hardly ever had trouble before. "Room 404." He said when he climbed back in the car.
I grunted in response and leaned my head back. The car smelled different. It didn't have that musky cologne smell that Dean always had about him. It seemed like he was completely gone; that he was never here. I miss the smell. Sam pulled up to our building and we carried some stuff in with us. After we'd sorted through our stuff, I turned on the tv to a random channel, laid down, and fell asleep. I woke up a few hours later when someone was talking, and I could feel someone sneaking through the room, "Hello?" I asked aloud.
"Kay. Good morning." A female voice said.
I shot up, and pulled my gun out from under my pillow and aimed it at her, "Who are you?"
"Relax. I'm a friend." She waved it off.
"Doesn't answer my question." I said and stood up to face her properly.
"She's been helping me." Sam said, coming into the room and standing between us.
"Thought I was helping you." I said quickly, I lowered my gun half way.
"I know. You are. Just... put the gun down and let me explain." He said, his hands up in defense.
It took me a second to think it over, but I put the gun in my waist band "Okay, explain."
He told me how she was a demon and how she tried to help Dean out of his deal, but couldn't. And how she was giving him information about where the demons were. I, of course, questioned all of this but held my peace. Sam needs me, and I'll watch his back and make sure he gets out of this unscathed. It's what Dean would want. But when he got to the part in the story where he could kill demons with his mind, that freaked me out. But I still didn't say anything, just glared at "Ruby".
"Sam." I said when he was finished.
"Yeah?" He looked at me hopeful that if understand.
"I have a request."
"Okay, what?"
Ruby suddenly looked interested in the conversation, "I know that she helped you out. I understand that." I have him a second to let his face change from hopeful to disappointment, "But I am not comfortable sleeping in the same place she is 'living'. So if you could not be here while that's going on that'd be great." I said to her.
"Listen, Kay." She said, sass in her voice, "I don't care if you don't like me. You should be grateful."
"For what? For you trailing Sam around? I'm sure he was fine on his own." I said back.
"Yeah, I'm sure. But he could use some help, don't ya think?"
This was going sour. Sam wasn't doing anything to stop it and we both knew Ruby wouldn't, so I went over to my bag, threw my gun and a few things of salt in, and slung it over my shoulder, "Okay. I'm gonna go get another room," I walked passed Ruby and up to Sam, "Call if you need anything." I said and went to the front desk and got another room.
