Sam, not long after our talk, came outside and gathered us up back to the library. Earlier we'd leveled it down to a state, Kentucky, but he found a local miracle. In '85, a 100 year old oak had grown over night. Anna said that her grace could do that easily, and it was the best lead we had, so we got in the car. It was a two day trip, and we didn't stop to sleep. We got there at dusk on the second day, and the light hit the tree perfectly. It was beautiful. A true masterpiece. "Wow." I said.
"It's beautiful." Dean agreed.
"It's where the grace touched down. I can feel it." Anna said, leading the way to it.
"You ready to do this?" Dean asked when we got close.
"Not really." She admitted.
"Anna, what are we even looking for?"
She placed a hand in the tree, "It doesn't matter, it's not here anymore. Someone took it." Fan-flippin-tastic.
We marched away, me pretty upset and the others not in the highest of hopes. Ruby was set on the idea of just killing Anna. We found a barn, not far away from the tree, to crash for the night and figure things out. Dean and Ruby argued about how to handle it. Ruby clearly wanting to just quit and be done, and Dean not quite sure what to do. Anna stopped them when she said the Angels had started to speak again, "It's weird... Like a recording... a loop. It says, 'Dean Winchester gives us Anna by midnight, or...'" She paused, worried about whatever came next.
"Or what?" Dean asked, his stern voice showing its face. Your bravery will be the death of you... again.
"'...or we hurl him back to damnation.'" She finished, and my heart dropped. That ain't gonna happen.
Sam asked Anna if there were a weapon that could kill an angel. She said yes, but not one we could get easily and in time. He suggested we call Bobby, but Dean made the point that he'd just be getting into something he couldn't help with. They started arguing. Always with the arguing.
"Dean." I said, placing a hand on his arm to get his attention, "I don't care what you think, but we aren't letting you go that easy." He looked at me. I couldn't begin to understand the emotion in his eyes as he did. Love, worry, anger? I don't know. I've seen him give sam the same look several times before. But it doesn't matter right now. He just needs to understand.
After that, we had a lot of time to just think. We weren't in the mood to move just yet. Sam was looking over a book until he fell asleep, so I left him to go chill with Dean for a little while. He was alone out by the impala, his back to me. Today's been a pretty stressful day for him. "Hey," I said, warning him of my presence.
