Airi pov:

"I will devour you....your reiatsu smells so delicious, human child! I will devour you!!" My eyes widened in fear as I saw one of those creatures....the ones that haunted me everytime I sensed a change in the air.
"N-no.....stay a-away....stay away!!!" I screamed. They were supposed to devour only souls, not living humans! Why was I being targeted like this? Was it because I could see them and I wasn't supposed to? But what could I do?! I didn't ask for the ability to see them!
My vision was blurry, my heart pounding in my ears, sweat drenching my face and making my hair stick to my skin. I was afraid. So afraid. The creature's eyes followed me as I ran as fast as I could. I had to get away from him at any cost! I didn't want to die! I had to escape!
"Look at that child talking to herself and running like that!"
"She's so strange.....its creepy."
"She keeps talking to herself and pretending like she can see someone when nothing is there."
"I get uneasy being around her."
People around spoke in hushed whispers as a child barely nine years old ran through the streets scared out of her wits. That's right....no one could see those creatures or spirits except me. This is how it had been ever since I was a child and it ended up with me being called a freak and a liar.
"Hey Ai chan! Do you want to play?" I stopped running, freezing on the spot seeing another child from my school smiling at me as he stood in the middle of the street. He was holding a ball in his hands as he waited for my reply to his request. He was one of the only kids at my school who spoke to me even though I didn't bother acknowledging anyone.
"Run!" I wanted to yell to him but I couldn't find my voice. I couldn't even bring myself to take his hand and run away from that monster that was chasing me. I was frozen in fear and shock. And this boy never ceased to surprise me with his kindness.
"I will devour you!!" I snapped back to the present as I heard the monster's voice right behind me.
I turned around, my eyes going wide, my breath getting caught in my throat. I began to hyperventilate seeing the monster get closer and closer to me. This was too much for me to take. I took steps back inching towards the boy who watched me curiously. The monster lifted his hand and it pushed me over the edge. The thought of seeing blood splattered around me again caused by these monsters flashed through my mind and everything finally exploding in an ear piercing scream. And then.....I fainted.
"Lets send her away to her relatives! I cant bear to take care of her anymore! She's always doing such strange things! Its not normal! And getting such strange injuries....it makes me afraid to be around her! I cant let our children get hurt because of her....Mizu chan already has nightmares hearing her scream in the middle of the night!" I heard my step mother's voice just outside my door in the hospital room.
I stared at the white sheets as I sat on one of the hospital beds. I didn't know what else to do. Why did I have this ability? Why could I see such things? I had ended up with a bleeding scratch on my arm that looked like the claws of some wild animal, a surface scratch on my cheek and I had gone into shock because I was so scared. I couldn't bring myself to speak to the doctor and tell him what happened so they had decided that they would give me some time to come out of the shock.
This is how it had always been. Ever since my parents disappeared suddenly one night, I was passed around between relatives, orphanages and Forster families because I couldn't be in police custody for long. No matter where I went, the spirits and monsters were visible to me and I would end up in an incident like this. And now, even these foster parents didn't want me anymore.
