Chapter fourteen

Jinx's POV

     "Jade you alright? Get over here!" I yelled to my sister. She just shook her head and looked down at the ground. I looked at Leo and gestured my head towards Jade. He nodded so I ran to her. "Hey what's wrong? Are you scared about the party?"

Jade shook her head. "No, I just don't want to hurt any of you guys. My powers are acting up a little bit, and I don't know why. The other night, before we got the letters, I had a dream that my blood turned black and I ended up hurting everyone..." She said. Her eyes told me that she was trying desperately to hold back tears.

I hugged my older sister. "Hey don't worry. I wont let that happen." I rested my hands on her shoulders and pushed her away so I could look her in the eyes. "I'll alway-" I stopped mid sentence to examine her eyes. A small cat like pupil was forming.

Jade looked confused. "Jinx? What is it? You're scaring me."

"You have a pupil, it's like a dragons eye sort of? Are you alright?"

"What?!" She asked. Terror filled her eyes. "Jinx that's how they were in the dream!! I can't let that happen!" Jade said.

I smiled. "Hey don't worry about it. It just caught me off guard. I'm sure it's nothing. Let's talk to Stein about it tomorrow. How about we forget it for now and enjoy the party?"

"Don't you think it's strange that someone we don't know has invited us to a place we've never been to eat food and play games?" Jade asked.

"Oh come on, I think it's just Kirito because she knows how much the Ackerman sisters love Clue! It's like our favorite movie and game!" I smiled.

Finally, she smiled to. It may have been weak, but it was still there. "Okay. But please, if you notice anything weird going on for me, please, like, pull me aside and snap me out of it. I can't hurt anyone like I hurt you."

"Jade. Please don't worry about me, I told you it's fine. It's Dad's fault. C'mon, let's go see if I can beat Leo at the slapping game again!!" I said and to Leo. I looked back and saw that Jade walked slowly over to Eve and they started talking.

"What's up? She okay? I managed to distract everyone while you guys talked, but I kept an eye on you. You both seem high strung." Leo asked me.

"It's just stuff." I said. The scars on my arm started to tickle and itch. They did that sometimes when I was nervous. To help it, I rubbed my arm.

"Jinx, please tell me. You seem to be rubbing your scarred arm more lately. I know it wasn't the iron the caused them. It wraps all around your entire arm. Please tell me the truth, I'm begging you!" Leo said, his hands on my shoulders.

     "Let's not talk here." I grabbed his wrist and pulled him behind a tree. "What happened was... Jade was fifteen, I-I was thirteen... You know about her powers now..." I stopped because my throat felt like it was closing up.

     "Jinx...? What happened...?"

     "She didn't mean to!" I blurted. "Our mother told us she was a death scythe and my father got jealous. He left. That's why he left. Mom went into her room and ended up not coming out for weeks, but as soon as our father slammed the door, the black and red glow appeared in her eyes. It had only happened when The Incident happened... I told you about that... But I didn't say how we defeated him.

     "He was about to hurt me. But Jade's magic and her strength took over and she ended up killing him with her bare hands. That's why we were so surprised to see him alive. But with our Dad, I saw what was happening and stood between her and the door. I knew he was selfish, but she would kill him without even realizing it! She set her hand on my arm and burned me to get me to move... I refused and gritted my teeth through the pain... She still doesn't forgive herself for it. It makes her sick to her stomach. I told her it's nothing but she wont listen."

     Leo stared at me in shock. He hugged me tightly. "Why didn't you tell me...?"

     I hugged him back. "Because I was scared. I didn't want you to get the wrong idea and hurt her. I'm only trying to protect her... She's all I really have now... Mom has Shinigami, Dad is gone..." I cried.

     Leo pushed me away to look me in the eyes. "But I'll always be your partner in crime."

     And then he kissed me...
