Jade's POV

I woke up to the sweet smell of chocolate, the aroma filling my room.

It was Saturday which meant we didn't have school.

I ripped off my blue blanket and sat up. The morning chill hung on the air, cooling my skin. I was only wearing a tank top and plaid pajama pants that were too big for me. My bright blue hair was tied back into a messy bun.

Getting up slowly, I walked to the door and opened it, entering the hallway. I lived with my myster Eve.

Eve stood at the oven, her long, chestnut and black ombré hair in a braid down her back. She noticed me, her dark purple eyes sparkled. "Morning Jade, how'd ya sleep? I'm makin chocolate chip muffins!"

"Mm... I slept okay I guess. Chocolate chip muffins sound amazing right about now. That test yesterday was brutal! My back still hurts!" I said.

"Jade, I was the one swinging you around. Scythes aren't that light ya know!" She laughed.

"I guess. Remember that time Jinx tried to pick me up? She had Leo helping her and they still couldn't do it!"

"Yeah I remember that! Katria tried to videotape it but the sound of me and Cinnamon laughing so hard made her stop!"

Katria was a weapon, an axe to be exact. She had medium length brown hair kept in two braids and bright green eyes. She was pretty mellow.

Cinnamon, is actually named Sylvie Fawn. She's super short, only like, 4'9", and SUPER energetic. She's the fastest runner in the DWMA! But she's a pistol. Weapon to Adam. He was very quiet and mellow, like the opposite of Cinnamon. He had black hair and dark green eyes. He always put up with Cinnamon's energy, and she loved piggy back rides.

"What are we doin today?" I asked, stealing one of the muffins and picking a chocolate chip off of the top.

"I dunno. Wanna call up Sylvie and see what she's doing? I could get the stuff to make pizza for lunch. Can you open this?" Eve handed me a bag of chocolate chips.

I turned into a half scythe and ripped it open carefully.

"Thanks. I'm making some to last us the week unless you eat them all." She said, grabbing the bag from my hand before I could snag some.

I scowled at her. Then shrugged, "eh, you're probably not wrong about that." I said snatching another muffin.

"Jeez, you eat enough food in one day to feed the whole DWMA twice!" She laughed.

"Well I'm sorry! I'm always hungry!" I said, my mouth full of muffin.

"I just don't understand where you put it all! You're as skinny as a twig! I'm the one doing all the running and jumping!" She smiled.

I smirked and tapped her shoulder. "It's alllllll talent my darlin'. I actually get it from my mom."

"Hey isn't she Lord Death's new Death weapon?" Eve asked.

"Yeah, I don't like it though. I mean, I love my mum, and I'm proud of her! But that means people pay more attention to me too. I hate being the center of attention!" I cringed.

"That's funny because Jinx loves being the center of attention! Whatever happened to your father?"

"I dunno. He left once Mum became a Death chain scythe. I guess he was jealous or something. I don't care though." I shrugged.

     The phone rang.

"I got it," Eve said, setting down the oven mitt she was holding.

I grabbed yet another muffin and walked into our living room. Plopping myself in the couch, I grabbed the remote and turned on the TV.

"That was Cinnamon. She's daring us to a race in the park at noon." Eve told me.

     "Challenge accepted." I said smirking.

I got up and ran into my room. It was 11:47. I grabbed my crop top and flannel, even though I would take the flannel off before I ran. I pulled on some denim shorts and laced up my knee high converse sneakers.

Checking in the mirror to see if I looked ok, I wiped some chocolate off of the corner of my mouth. Damn those muffins were good.

I put up my hair into its usual high ponytail ran out of the room to see Eve in her usual outfit. A baggy, larger cut neck shirt with a purple skirt and sneakers.

     "You're wearing that?" I asked.

"Hey I run in this everyday, don't judge me. You're wearing your flannel. Who wears a flannel running?" She asked playfully.

"I'm gonna take it off you dumbo!" I laughed and stuck my tongue out.

"C'mon we gotta go!" She said and we ran out the door.

When we arrived at the park, Sylvie was there already running laps. I looked at Adam and he shrugged.

     "Hey Cinnamon!" I yelled.

She looked to where she heard her nickname come from and ran to us smiling. "Hey guys! Ready to race?!" She asked.

"You're on! Even though I know you'll win." I said laughing.

"Eh whatever, it's still fun!" She said jumping into the air.

We lined up at the start of the track in the park. Adam held up a handkerchief. "On your mark... Get set... Go!" He said throwing his arm holding the handkerchief down.

I sprinted so fast I didn't even see who was ahead or behind me. I just ran as fast as I could.

We only had to do two laps.

I passed the line, pushing harder to run faster. My lungs didn't even ache, all of that working out actually pays off. I closed my eyes and pushed as hard as I could.

I hit something hard and fell to the ground.

"Jade! Jade! You can stop now! You did five extra laps!" Cinnamon said.

I breathed hard trying to regain my breath and looked around.

"W-who... Who- won?" I asked between breathes.

"You did! You are officially the fastest person in the DWMA!" Cinnamon clapped, as did Adam.

Eve looked at me and kissed me on the cheek.

     I looked at her surprised.

Her face blushed with embarrassment as she looked at the ground.

But I grabbed her arms and kissed her.

This day couldn't get any better.
