Peril was running through the halls of Jade Mountain Academy. It was the start of the new school for all the dragon tribes. Peril was going to help her friends but she also mainly wanted to see Clay. Last time she saw him, he was passed out at the desert with a hole in his leg from where she had burned out the snake venom. As Peril ran, she saw students jump out of the way.

"Watch where you're going!" screamed one.

"Sorry, I'm in a rush!" Peril shouted back. She was in a rush for her Clay.

"No kidding," the student mumbled back.

Peril didn't care though. She was used to dragons getting made at her just because she got too close to them. Oh well Peril thought. That's one reason why she loved Clay. She didn't have to worry about hurting him. Now I just have to find him. If I were Clay, where would I be? The feeding room! Peril ran as fast as she could and nearly toppled over Clay as she came in the doorway.

"Hey Peril!" Clay grinned. He hugged Peril which caused a sizzling sound to be heard, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to help!" Peril exclaimed.

"Thanks! We need all the help we can get," responded Clay. They both smiled until Peril noticed his leg and remembered she did that to him.

"Oh three moons Clay. Is your leg ok?!" Peril asked. She knew it was going to leave a scar on him but it looked like it was still hurting him.

"Oh, it's fine," Clay said glancing down at his leg, "The limp won't bother me."

Peril shuddered. He has a limp. He has a limp because of me. I did hurt him. Her happy cheery self she was just a second ago vanished as she stood horrorstruck.

"It's all my fault," Peril uttered,"I'm to blame for your limp." Peril couldn't believe it. She had hurt the one she loved most and the one who had the fire resistant scales. I'm able to hurt him even with his scales Peril realized.

"What are you talking about," Clay remarked,"You saved my life. Without you, I would be dead right now."

"N-no, anyone could've done that," Peril said beginning to cry.

"That's not true. It was your scales, Peril. Your the only one who could've done that," protested Clay.

Peril was starting to break down. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see students peering in from the doorway watching.

"I'm a monster," Peril murmured,"I have to go." Peril straightened up and before Clay could stop her or say anything else, she had already started running out the doorway and through the halls. Students all jumped out of her way, like usual, and Peril could hear Clay shouting out from the doorway, "Wait!"

Alone in one of the caves, Peril was determining what to do next. I should just go. I should go and leave all dragons who I'm able to hurt. I don't even need to say goodbye, I could just leave and be over with it--

Peril's thoughts were interrupted when a dragon bounded into the cave.

"There you are!" Clay said coming over to hug Peril but she backed away for she was afraid she would hurt him once again.

"Don't, please don't," Peril warned Clay, "I'll just cause more damage."

Clay stopped abruptly in his tracks. "Peril, what's gotten into you. You're not the dragon I remembered."

"Clay," Peril started, "I'm a monster. I hurt everyone including you and you have your fire resistant scales. I can't be around other dragons. I have to go."

"No, you are not leaving. I won't let you," Clay exclaimed. He jumped in front of the doorway as Peril lunged for the door.

"Stop, I mean it," Peril complained.

"Not moving," grunted Clay.

Peril then tried to burst through the door again and Clay didn't budge a bit taking the heat from Peril's scales. The sizzling sound was growing louder and the bystander students were back watching the action. Peril kept pushing through the door until Clay swung Peril around and kissed her.

His eyes were closed until he suddenly said, "Peril, I need you. Please don't go. You're too amazing to not be in this world."

Peril smiled, "I love you Clay."

"I love you too Peril," agreed Clay.

Peril felt better and she was her normal self. They began kissing again and all the students watching ran out of the doorway screaming, "Ew!!!!!!" Peril didn't care though because she had her Clay in her talons.
