Chapter One - Novella Quill

- Novella Quill POV -

As I rushed through our bedroom door, I tried to slow my breathing, so not to alert mother or father.

"Riff!" I whispered sharply. "Riff, wake up!" 

My brother stirred, flicking his orange and red mane out of his face. It was still fluffy from sleep. "What...?" he groaned, stretching. He'd been at a concert until late, so I knew not to wake him unless it was crucial.

"They came after me again, Riff. The Monks." I whispered breathlessly, nudging him with my horn. "We need to leave, tonight."

He was awake now, sitting up straightly. "Are you sure it was them?"

I rolled my eyes. "They were wearing brown robes and shooting revealing spells at me. They knew me, Riff. They were aiming for my cape." I nudged my cape away from my back, revealing my wings. I sat down with a sigh and tried not to cry.

I'd no idea how it had happened. I'd been doing a spell to turn a rock into a cake, for Riff's birthday, and something had gone wrong - I'd ended up with wings, making me an Alicorn. Now The Monks were after me, a group who revealed newly turned alicorns to the whole of Equestria, and I didnt really know what happened after that. I didnt want to find out.

"Nova, calm down." Riff put his hoof on my shoulder and pulled my cape hood up over my head. "We'll leave on the first train out. Pack your bags." I smiled; he did everything for me. He'd always done so, and now he was giving up his whole life as a rockstar for me. I felt teary. We packed up our stuff, left a note for parents, and rushed over to the train station. I looked around me anxiously, trying to look out for any of The Monks.

"Two tickets please?" Riff asked when we arrived.

The pony behind the glass clicked a few buttons, then looked tiredly at us. "Where to?"

Riff looked at me. I thought for a moment, before the idea came to me. "Ponyville." I said eventually. "Two tickets to Ponyville, please."
