Luke didn't know.
He didn't know why he felt this way. Didn't know why one annoying comment from his teacher made him feel so bad.
It's like he's drowning and he can't even move his fingers.
He feels like crying.
All because he didn't go to school on Friday.
He had missed three days of school in one week, plus a few more days throughout the rest of the year, doing way more important things.
His friend Michael had brought it up, laughing, "You just never show up at school!"
"I do, too!" Luke shot back, laughing, hiding how he was slightly offended and guilty.
"Yeah, like half the year," Michael snorts and elbows Luke.
Luke rolls his eyes, "Not that much."
And now his teacher.
He stares at the comment on his report card.
"Attendance affects classroom performance."
It was like a burn from his teacher.
It's really not that big of a deal, but it just makes Luke extremely depressed for some reason.
She could've said it nicely, he thinks. Does she think he misses out on assignments when he doesn't go to school?
He knows it doesn't really matter. He knows his mum doesn't care, since she's the one who lets him miss school once in awhile.
And it's not like they even know why he stays home.
They could at least ask, but he doesn't think they're permitted to do that.
Luke shakes his head, folding the report card and setting it on his mother's desk for when she gets home from the doctor.
He literally received all A's, even from that one teacher, so it doesn't really matter.
He walks upstairs, pulling out his phone from his sweatshirt pocket and shuffling his music to play out loud. No one would be home until 5:00, so he has about an hour and a half to do whatever he wants.
He takes an apple from the counter, moving to sit at one of the chairs by his counter.
Within five minutes, he's bored, so he texts his boyfriend.
To: Cally-Bear
Bored, come over.
Instantly he sees the notification atop his screen, drowning out the music for a second before returning to normal.
From: Cally-Bear
omw babe. Bringing pizza
Luke smiles, closing his eyes and thinking about his boyfriend.
It brightens his mood, knowing Calum's cuddles would make him feel better.
He finishes his apple while he waits, scrolling through Instagram on his phone, singing along quietly to the song, "I Miss You," by Blink-182.
Luke's phone starts to vibrate and then Calum's picture Luke took of him pops up on his screen. He answers it, holding it up to his ear.
"Hey, Cal."
