I know. This chapter is LONG overdue. And I'll say it again, I AM SOOOO SORRY!!! I hope this (kinda) makes up for the wait! (:

Starswirl: It happened long ago, during a time where magic still ran in abundance throughout the land. There were many creatures, humans and shadows alike. Then, the shadows were apart of the the humans, acting as the shadows that accompany you today. Though they were not as lifeless as they are now.

They never caused bloodshed, though that is not to say they had their share of clashes. And it isn't surprising. The humans believed in the light, of its beauty and cleansing brightness, while the shadows believed in the cooling comfort the darkness brought them.

The shadows only acted at night, parting from the humans and causing mischief. The humans soon grew tired of the shadows' antics and demanded they returned to their posts. The shadows however refused, for they too were tired of being restrained to the humans, and having their only nightly freedom being threatened. They fought back, attacking the humans and making sure their freedom remained intact.

The humans soon turned to a local wizard to break the ties between humans and shadows once and for all. The wizard agreed, for he thought the shadows were going too far in their revolution. He used an spell ancient even in those days, successfully separating the two races for good.

Be that as it may, the deed came with a price. For the spell tore the lives of the shadows away from the humans, leaving only the empty shells you have grown to know today. To complete the spell however, the user must tear their own life to follow the shadows into the new world, where they roam in eternal darkness. Which is exactly what that wizard did.

Rainbow: So...You risked everything to seal the shadows away?

Starswirl: Yes. Little did I know that my life in the human world just...wasn't enough to contain the wrath of the shadows. The king of shadows managed to leave a key behind.

Soarin: The incantation...

Starswirl: Yes, I'm afraid. And it seems your friend has been cursed by it. However, all hope is not lost.

Fluttershy: What do you mean?

Starswirl: You see, the corrupted versions of the necklaces that your shadows counterparts have work the opposite way yours do.

Twilight: Opposite?

Starswirl: Well, as yours are stronger when together, theirs gathers more strength when separated.

Pinkie: So how are we supposed to stop them?

Starswirl: By gaining control of your necklaces again...the Elements of Harmony.
