"Happy birthday!" Taylor squealed when Blu and I sat at our lunch table.
"It's your birthday?" Blu questioned.
I nodded, setting my food tray carefully on the table. I munched on the fairly decent pizza and glanced at him. "Finally 17," I said. My birthday was late in the year.
"Why didn't you tell me?" He asked, looking a bit down. Just a bit.
"I never really thought about it," I shrugged.
"Oh," he said.
I glanced at him, feeling guilty. He didn't look sad as much anymore. He actually looked thoughtful. I gave him a look of confusion, but he just smiled at me when he noticed. I looked down at my food, deciding to just shrug it off. Taylor seemed to not like the tension, and smiled widely. She then grabbed something from the chair next to her. It happened to be a cupcake, and I smiled at her.
"I would have brought a candle and a lighter, but I really don't want to get in trouble," she told me.
"No, no. This is fine," I chuckled, grateful.
"Can I sing happy birthday?" She asked.
I glared playfully, "No, you may not." I grabbed the cupcake and took a small bite out of it, savoring the taste. As I continued to eat, I heard Taylor sing softly.
"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthda--"
"Taylor," I groaned in embarrassment as people nearby snickered.
She smiled and chuckled along with Blu. My cheeks flushed when I caught him smiling at me, his eyes slightly crinkled because of how large his smile was.
'Happy birthday,' he mouthed.
I shyly smiled and nodded to tell him I understood what he said. "Thank you," I said aloud.

I made my way home, surprised to find my parents gone. My mom and dad, them being the best parents ever, I decided to stay home on my birthday. I called their names out, confused. I jumped when I heard a honk outside. I cynically walked to my window to look out at the front yard. I noticed Taylor's colorless (she always said it was magenta; whatever that was) Ford Ka and scrunched my eyebrows in curiosity. I hopped down the stairs to the front door, and opened it smoothly.
Taylor had rolled on the windows to talk. "Get in loser, we're going shopping."
I rolled my eyes, but obeyed. "Are we actually going shopping?" I questioned.
"You'll see," she smirked.
I groaned, jokingly. After a while of driving, I realized that we weren't going into town where the stores were. "Where are we going?" I looked out the window, and raised an eyebrow. The street we were on seemed familiar. I widened my eyes; this was the way to Blu's house. We then pulled up his driveway. "What are we doing here?"
"You'll see," Taylor repeated, pulling her door open and stepping out.
I copied her actions, smiling softly when the warm sun hit my face. Taylor grabbed my wrist, pulling me to the door.
"Is this safe?" I asked.
"I can reassure you that this is perfectly safe," she said.
