Chapter 3 - Physiotherapy

“So how’s your plan going on?” A voice asks me and I turn around, taking full notice of my surroundings. Well, there is nothing. It is all white, like inside of a box or a mental ward. Where the hell am I?

My eyes met blue ones. Piercing blue eyes that I had only seen once before, the night I died. Louis is there with me. “What are you doing here? Where am I?” I ask him and see him rolling his eyes. Seriously, he is so rude.

“I’m supposed to take you to the Next Dimension, remember? I’m going to be around until you decide to do the right thing and come with me so this can be finally over,” he replies and now I roll my eyes.

“I’m not going anywhere with you until I’m done here,” I reply back and he groans.

“And how’s that going, uh? Did you tell her already? Can you tell her?” He mocks me and I clench my fists.

He knows I have no idea of what I am doing and he is laughing at me. I don’t understand that system, but I do not like it. “Shut up. I just started, I’m figuring everything out.”

All this is weird and I really didn’t know what I was doing when I literally jumped inside Liam’s body. When Liam is awake I have no control whatsoever. Sometimes I can project some thoughts but I can’t do anything else. He is in total control, and I’m conscious of everything he is doing, but I can’t be part of it. I am just a guest in his conscious when he is awake. While he is sleeping I can show him more things, I can feel more like myself. His own conscious goes to have rest and I can act, I guess. But I don’t know if I’m doing something right or not.

“Why can I see you?” I ask Louis while turning around, trying to see something else.

“Because your host Liam is in the deepest stage of his sleep, therefore I can join you for a while.” I stare at him trying to fully understand what he means. “Jake, this is crazy. Come with me and finish this now.”

“No,” I refuse bluntly. I have no idea what I am doing but I’m sure of only one thing: I have to tell Cass I love her.

Louis rolls his eyes. He looks really pissed. Good. “Stupid Free Will,” he cusses under his breath and I grin. He can’t force me to go with him and he isn’t persuading me.

“Just let me do this. I’ll figure out how to show Liam what’s going on and he’ll tell Cassidy what I didn’t get the chance to tell her,” I try to make him see why this is so important to me. “Don’t you care about love? Isn’t that like your most important value or something?”

Rolling his eyes, Louis replies, “How many husbands, wives, mothers, fathers do you think I’ve taken to the Next Dimension? Most of them don’t have the chance to say goodbye, most of them leave unfinished business. They still leave. When it’s your time, it’s your time. Love can’t change that, Jake.”

Frustrated because he is only making this harder, I turn around. “Well, this is important to me and I won’t leave until Cass knows what I feel about her.”

“And then what?” He asks, his voice deep and low.

“Then I’ll go with you. I just want her to know,” I reply with my own voice lowering to a whisper.

“This won’t end up like you think, Jake. Leave now before it’s too late,” he warns me but I shake my head. “Think of what you’re making Liam go through. He has nothing to do in your little quest, you’re pushing him into all this.” I don’t say anything because I know he is right, but I can’t go. Not yet.
